98 sport with hyper flash after LED tail light install

I installed maxbilt led tails and put in the ep26 flasher and have hyper flash. All other light functions work properly. The original flasher was a 5 prong. I also tried the ep 27 with the same result. The emergency flashers work properly. Also I can still hear the clicking when the turns are not in use. The lights are grounded to the body. No other led lights except for headlights.

Any help appreciated.

Are you 100% certain it’s a 98 or that steering column/flasher area was never messed with? I can’t think of why a 98 would have a 5 prong installed as factory should have been 4 prong. I’m wondering if you need to try the LM470 model meant for 01-06 TJs.

It is a 98. And it was a 5 prong. I am the third owner and all lights were stock when I purchased it.

Did you remove the center prong? If so, for what reason? The reason I wanted to see pics is to figure out why you had a 5 prong installed. Factory 98 should not have been that way. Wondering if the old 5 pin could have shorted something and that might be the reason the new 4 pin doesn’t work. Or, the 4 pin you got could just be faulty.

where did you remove that flasher from? Everything I’m finding shows that 56006709 goes in the fuse box and that it isn’t a turn signal relay. Where are you installing the EP26?

Of course it does, just offering an alternative suggestion in case it's easier to go back to original (presumably working) 5 pin relay.

Sounds like you changed the right location’s relay. It’s usually up next to the steering column on the right side if I remember right.

I’m still curious about why you had a 5 prong previously, why it isn’t the right part number for the Jeeps with factory 5 prongs (2001-2006), and what the deal is with the missing center prong.

Yes and no.
In just a tail light form yes...
But if you're using a front 2 wire led turn signal (tj's have three) to make it work like a 3 wire light you need resistors, diodes, and a flasher

I didn’t have a 5 prong. I peeked under the steering wheel and saw that relay and assumed it was the flasher. Once I put the ep26 in the correct place all was good. What a dumb ass. But do you know what that relay is for? Because I obviously fucked it up and need to get a new one. I have a 3 speed auto and the relay is just above and to the driver side of the brake pedal

I’m well aware. But he was talking about load resistors. Up front for that mod you use inline resistors. Two very different items for different uses. And the mod is done to the 2-wire side marker to make it function like a 3 wire would. Ends up mimicking the front.

when you’re doing the 2 wire thing, the purpose of the resistor there is to dim the bulb for a running lamp mode. It has nothing to do with load and blinking. Hence why an inline resistor is used.

Yes I broke off the center prong and plan to just get a new as you said, but I am curious what it is for. I can’t find anything that is not working properly and the relay is removed
