What's the go-to for door sill protection? My OEM clear tape is worn through and the wear is making it to bare metal in some spots (from PO).
Thinking of a color match touch up and then another type of clear tape over it. Is there anything better?

Had the same issue with mine and went with these entry guards. There are a number of them out there but I think they're all pretty much the same, just branded under different names.

I went with Rugged Ridge. About $20 on Amazon. Easy install; peel the rest of the OEM clear coating off, clean with alcohol and stick em on (they have 3m automotive adhesive on the back). I've had them for just over a year and they've held up great so far.

I almost bought those the other day but didn't like the logo. The versions I've seen without a logo stick out and show even when the door is closed which I hate even more than the logo.

Get yourself some “helicopter tape” not sure why it’s called that but it’s clear and works.

x2 for the Rugged Ridge. They don't hang out under the door edge and look stupid. Yes, they have the logo, but I step on them, I don't stare at them, and the door almost is always covering the logo.

I don't think there is anyway to get the old factory tape off. I tried heat gun, scraper, goo be gone, and a few other techniques. I could never even get close to getting it off. The door sill guards covered it great. I've purchased two sets of those Rugged Ridge's for two separate rigs, one of which I still have.

Those are one of the first things I do to one-they look OEM in my opinion and like they belong there.

I got those and did t even install them they don’t actually cover the spots that get scrubbed by my foot. It may work great for you tho.

Heli Tape is made by 3m and is actually for Helicopter Blades and serves many protective uses. In Huntsville, the BlackHawk Helicopter program brings in millions of dollars- the first thing that happened when the birds went to the Middle East was the discovery of a huge maintenance issue they were not prepared for -sand.

I also recently installed a set of Rugged Ridge guards and was pleasantly surprised by how perfect they fit. They are pretty much identical to the OEM piece I installed 20 years ago minus the overhanging lip that interfered with my sliders. It also looks much cleaner without that.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll check out the rugged ridge ones. Appreciate it!!

I didn't like the seeing the guard hanging out from under the door either, so I cut that part off.
IMO, it still protects the area that sees the most abuse.

Do they seem well made? I like the idea of a softer material
I will update this as soon as they arrive. I didn’t like the hard sill guards that hung down under the door. I have higher hope for these…
