The grass is greener, get the F out of your home state thread

yeah. If we had the freedom to make that part of our decision process, it would definitely make sense. But we moved to this town specifically so our kids could grow up knowing their grandparents, one of whom (my dad) had a cancer scare last year. If not for the family factor, we'd have stayed where we were 'cause we had, to me, an almost perfect place. The only thing I could say is that the placement of the house on the lot only left room for about a 20x25 shop, when I'd really like something at least 25x30. But it was a price I was willing to pay for not having traffic, allergies or bugs, and only seeing 90F+ temps for maybe 12 hours per year.

Totally get that, I’m lucky in that part as I’m moving my parents too. Both have cancer and we are lucky they are willing to move with us to be near their grandkids and us.

Sometimes the money is well spent to have those memories. Best of luck, you will find your own little slice of heaven there.

I thought I’d never get own my dream property and shop. It’s taking me to a new state but it will be worth it.

It makes sense that rates are lower in places with higher populations, because they have more homes and properties taxes.
The population of the County I moved from in California is more than the entire State of Wyoming.

Yet, low property taxes, low sales taxes, no income tax. The roads are great. The schools are blue ribbon and have a 14/1 ratio. Infrastructure is pretty good, too. Must be a miracle.

Glad you found it man. Truly happy for you and the family. 😎

Low Sulfur Powder River Basin coal was taxed leaving the state. As coal use drops, so will revenues from it.

I just ran from Ventura County (I'm guessing you're in Oxnard) and am happy to never look back. Low property taxes, no income taxes, what sales tax there is has actually been used appropriately, and you know...freedom. 😁
Yeah I'm in Oxnard, for 3-1/2 more years. We've already bought property on Northern California to build on. My property tax is $820 year on a house worth $575K. Thank you prop 13. When I retire, my income tax will be low even if I stay. California does not tax Social Security, so I'll only be taxed on withdrawals from my 401K. Freedom is what you make of it.
That said, if I was 20-30 years younger, I'd be getting the hell out of here.

Our electric bill rarely tops $100/mo. We're on the coast, we don't need AC in the summer, and rarely need heat in the winter.

Y'all ever heard of Wiggins fork lifts there in Oxnard ? Took them bad boys all over the eastern seaboard.

Also 4 year running, in September we would pick up at the port Japanese missile systems. Would take then to White Sands in New Mexico. Those were good times. Wish I was making the same money now just driving in Arizona.

There's enough coal there to provide the electrical consumption of the US for the next 250 years at our current rate.

If China owned it, they'd burn it all. So should we.
I been in the power industry for 27 years, coal is dead. The company I work for will demo all coal plants very soon. overseas however coal is king….

Wiggins is still here. The port is busier than ever. A friend of mine is a supervisor for SSA. He makes bank that I'll only ever dream about.

Does he still like living there though?

Our former neighbor says prices have already stabilized or started to decline a bit where we sold in Colorado. My wife told me that like it was good news that we got out when we did, but my plan when we bought the house was to stay there for 10-20 years, so we wouldn't have been impacted by anything happening in the short term.

If he wants out though, he better do it soon because that million dollar house could be back down to 1/3 of that in the next crash.

We're looking at moving soon. I'd say they're somewhat stabilized, but the values are still way more than they ought to be. I think they'll go back to the normal 2-3% in the next few years.
