Am I the A-hole? Another terrible customer service story.

Generally, I've learned in life that if I have to ask the question, "Am I being an asshole?" The answer is almost certainly, "Yes"

45 dollars for freight, especially with a liftgate service (making the assumption you don't have a hi-lo) is ridiculously cheap.

Liftgate service? You drinking, homey? These things probably weight 6lbs.

I agree that the shipping charge wasn't a lot of money and I never assumed it was free shipping until I received the invoice. They sent an INVOICE with a total. The line legit says "Invoice Total". I brought up the fact that most companies offer free shipping because, well, it's true. Therefore, when I receive an invoice that doesn't include a shipping charge, it's not strange to assume they don't charge shipping. To add on $45 after 5 months is shady. I'm actually a bit surprised to see how many people would have allowed this.

You live a very sheltered life if you do any business under today's bullshit conditions and don't understand the volatility of pricing. I fully understand doing things based on the principle of how stuff should be. You've already stressed more, fucked with them more, and endured more time typing this shit out than 5% is worth.

If I was that company, I'd sue you to return the parts.

What I'm gathering from the responses here: "Eat the shit sandwich" and just accept the "new reality".
Fuck that. If there's never a push back, they're free to keep pushing slop service.

I didn't steal the parts. Relax. I simply fucked with them because they were assholes on the phone. The type of guys that hang up and laugh about how rude they were. They will get paid EXACTLY what we agreed. I own a business and I don't pretend to hide behind today's market. I did $6.6M in revenue in this market and the customer's I deal with are a fuck of a lot more demanding than some dickhead arguing shipping.

I ordered several hundred pounds of something earlier this week that cost considerably more than OP’s purchase.

I got free shipping.

But since what I ordered is only 3 hours south I asked if I could simply pick the items up and save a little more.

They said I don’t want to do that because then they’d have to charge tax and it’d end up costing more.

For OP’s amount I’d have probably ignored it and never given them another dime. But I’ve told people off for less too.

I got free shipping on my Bendpak lift. That thing was thousands of lbs in 5 crates. I got free shipping on my 80g Quincy air compressor. I got free shipping on my standup toolbox. I got free shipping on my truck wheels and tires. I honestly can't remember the last time I was charged shipping on something I paid this kind of money for.

I’m going to be putting in a lift first of next year so if you can point me toward a good place that won’t give me a headache, much appreciated!

I'm actually very happy with my Bendpak lift. If I was to do it again, I'd still get the Bendpak but go through a local third party vendor...local being key. Let them deal with Bendpak and any issues that may arise. not sure your location but I'm in Maine and finding a vendor was not an easy task.

I didn't say anyone was hiding behind anything. The market is fucked right now. If you did that much in sales, tell me I'm wrong.

The market being fucked doesn't excuse their poor customer service.

I had a similar issue recently, the company emailed me about the issue and asked if I wanted to make up the difference or cancel the order. I had already had second thoughts about it anyway so I elected to cancel, and they said "no problem". That's how the OPs order should have been handled.

The market is fucked but it's not an excuse to treat customers like you're doing them a favor by taking their business. In a fucked market, customer service should be top priority. I barely even gave these guys flack for the crazy 5 month turnaround time... that to me is the fucked market and why I didn't harp on the turnaround time. I followed up once. That isn't even the point.

You can't send an invoice then change it without even notifying the customer. You can't just charge whatever the hell you want after you agree on a price. You (or I) would never shake hands with someone and then go back on that agreement. Same principle.

I'd sue you for the parts back and then I'd throw them in the trash.

You’re ridiculous. If you want to stand on a soapbox, they stole from me. They didn’t have authorization to charge me more than what was agreed. The CC agreed. The parts are officially paid in full. The charge went through today for the total they originally agreed to. If you sued, you’d lose. You wouldn’t have a case.

I would have a case because you have the parts and the money. You're just being a dick because they fucked you around on the time frame and now you're pissy about it. Anyone that runs that much money through a business is not really bothered by 5%. You've picked this hill to die on because you're mad at them. As myself and others have said, yeah, 5% more, what the fuck ever.

Wrong. They are paid in full. Parts haven’t even arrived yet. Due today actually. And I’ve said multiple times I didn’t really care about the timeframe.

So you think it’s ok to just increase invoices 5% no questions asked. Fuck it, the economy sucks. Great business model.

They said freight. I repeated what I was told.

I literally could quit doing any physical work and just become just a supply chain manager for the farm. It’s a constant circle jerk of excuses. You were way more generous waiting for 5 months then most would be.

(It’s hard to overcome the TJ Forum group think) 😂

Just bend over and take it because the market is fucked. If you don’t you should be sued and you ARE the asshole.

My business partner is going to be super happy when I tell him we can clear an additional $300k this year by simply stealing 5% from our clients. I’m going to add a line item on the invoice “Fucked Market - just pay it”

You should change the clickbait title of this thread... you're not really asking if you the a-hole, you believe you aren't and won't listen to anyone who says otherwise... You should repost this thread and pose it as a simple rant rather than a question, it would be more honest.
