Bestop under seat storage

Has anyone installed the bestop under seat security storage box? I tried installing it on my 04 TJ under the drivers side seat and it fit just fine but when i tried to move the seat back I couldn't get the seat slide to release.

I found that the bars at the end of the seat slide release hit right on top of the box, preventing it from releasing. It seems like these should be able to clear each side of the box but they don't and there's really just one way the box can go in. Note that I don't have the fold and tumble seat on the drivers side so that isn't an issue.

No experience with Bestop's version, but I just installed the Tuffy lock box under my driver seat with no issues, other than trying to get the two bolts next to the tunnel installed. That was a PITA.

Ya it looked like the inside front bolt will be a pain but I didn't get that far with mine. I have read that the Tuffy seems to go in just fine but I now have scratches on my bestop where the release arms were hitting it so not sure I can return it.

Good thing you keep that map locked up there, Bob. I hear those are highly valuable to the ever elusive map thieves. ;)

I may check into that, thank you.
My box did the same thing with 03-06 seats. I always thought the seats sat low anyway so installed 2" risers. Plenty of room for lever action after that.

So just adding washers between the front box bracket and seat bracket was enough for yours?
I placed washers under all four corners. Set the box in position, set washers on top of mounts, set seat in place, stick bolts through holes, cuss and fuss move stuff around until they're all started. It's a PITA, but it gives enough clearance to work.

That may be the way to go

Opted for the Tuffy box this time. Had the Bestop in my JKs, but actually welded it into the seat frame.

On the TJ, the Tuffy box works fine, albeit a little smaller than the Bestop. I do have seat risers FWIW.

I had the same issue with a Tuffy box on a '99, with fixed base seats. Once I added seat risers the problem was gone.

Paper maps are antiques now so they are worth their weight in gold. Now you gotta do like @Zorba and get a smart phone to get around! 🤫
Fuck smartphones all the way to Hell. I'd rather navigate with a compass and sextant with a pirate map from the 1790s! As it is, I generally use a Garmin - but stop off at AAA for some paper maps on long trips as well.

TripTik for the win!

From what I've read the seat risers might be an added bonus, I just didn't want to spend extra money to have the box.
