The great resignation—where is the hired help?

Minimum wage is TOTALLY a living wage! If you're 17 and share a place with 3 buddies like you're supposed to when you're making minimum wage.
Think Zorba has a lot of it noodled out- Americans like their $1K iphones, $100 nail jobs and $200 hair, eating out every night, driving new cars they can't afford (as opposed to 25 year old TJs they can't afford). If you're planning on living on minimum wage, plan on living cheap.
My little brother is just getting back to the work force after some health issues and general misfortune. He's taking his time though because the government is paying so damn good he makes MORE not working. Why would he go back? And he's at least marginally motivated to hold a useful place in society. Not so for much of the non-workforce.
I can tell you I am damn sick of the huge tax burden being thrown at me and my family. Then when I bitch about it some asshat trying to shame me as greedy and uncaring because I don't want to fund another bullshit bailout. You're right. I DON'T want to fund your laziness. No way my family used a fraction of the amount the government confiscates from me each year. Not even close.
You know what Trump's first covid bailout cost you? $6300 each. Kids and non-workers included. $6300 per American citizen. Since then Bidumb has signed 3 more, so-we're up to $25K EACH to keep people at home instead of producing Jeep parts like they should!
Stop the never ending handouts and stop importing illegals you can pay shit wages off the books and wages will climb with a quickness.

You’re correct those things have to be cleaned

Wife doesn't like white cabinets - although we've had two kitchens thus equipped - but both of us LOATHE stainless stee..., excuse me I mean STAINLESS STEEL APPLIANCES! But this kitchen has the microwave exactly where it belongs!
It was a toss up between avocado and stainless.

He is right- our prosperity is our biggest enemy it seems- people are insulated from lifes’ harshness and dont even have the skills to survive- we can give people anything but necessity
..and it's been the goal of every American generation to make sure their progeny "have it better than they".. successfully executed but not without unintended consequences. Anyone tells me their generation has more fortitude than a previous is dilusional.

I unfortunately didn't get to design or pick anything out. I bought it that way.

The major changes I would make would be a better range hood that vented externally. I'd also fill in the little desk area with more closed storage.

I remember when unemployment was a shame like divorce,
This is an interesting observation and something that I've thought a lot about over the years, particularly when it comes to EBT (what used to be called food stamps).

My dad died when I was a teenager, so it was me, my disabled younger brother, and my mother who had never been in the workforce. We didn't have anything to fall back on at the time, so my mother went on welfare. There was very much a sense of shame in going to the grocery store using government-provided resources to feed your family, but the situation we were in (in my opinion) is exactly what it was designed for. My mother went to night school to learn stenography and shortly thereafter started her own company along with another gal. It all worked out, no more food stamps for us.

Fast forward to today you see "EBT Accepted Here" plastered all over store fronts. Government assistance has become so prevalent that advertising it's acceptance is what businesses do to compete. Hell, look at Papa Murphy's they're entire business model is predicated on it.

Agreed we're always in the kitchen where all the office work is accomplished. We had a lot of space to fill with cabinets. The peninsula has file drawers under it. The cook top has a pop up downdraft vent to the outdoors. @Zorba the oven and cooktop were brand new CL finds along with the dish drawers.

Pretty much how I did it...with a little side career in the Navy-best damn job I ever had!
I started out sharing a 12X60 singlewide in Wyoming. Drove a POS Honda, cooked my own food, usually what I shot or trapped, Joined the Navy to get out of the cold and wind.
At one point I accidentally calculated my actual hourly wage when we were in Guantanamo-about $1.89 an hour!
I quit doing that math till I picked up Chief!

USA proud for your mother and you!
You certainly can't give them a stamp book anymore, give them a credit card so there is no stigmatism.
Can't have any shame anymore in a woke America.

That is literally why the minimum wage was created, to afford the basic cost of being a living human being. Somewhere along the way that narrative shifted into the way you currently view it.

and somewhere along the way the definition of "being a living human being" went from having food and a roof over your head to having a 50" TV and an XBOX with 7 streaming services, the newest pair of whatever shoes the kids are wearing these days, a car loan, and having someone prepare your food for you and hand it to you through a window.

Sorry, but if you won't invest time in yourself to hit the workforce with more than minimum skills, you should expect to need multiple incomes to support a household, either roommates or working spouses.

@TRE3TOP may put you on ignore for that
