What did you do to your TJ today?

Got my first Jeep on Saturday.....2006 Rubicon. Put it on the lift today. Flushed radiator, changed oil and filter, checked fluids on tranny, and diffs. Checked for any loose parts, checked for any bad ujoints, etc. Rotated tires, found no oil leaks and no rust. Tightened emergency brake, checked disc brakes for wear. I've bought several vehicles and boats only to spend money on them and then sell them, usually for a loss. However, this time I feel sure I have a keeper.

@Kiwi TJ Oh wait... did you take a taller can and cut it down and it not have a bottom in it?
I took 2 cans and welded them together as I couldnt find one tall enough…( i’m going to redo mine I’m looking for a fat 50 cam that should do the job)
Below are some pics of the build… I made a wooden false bottom with a hole in the top so I can still access the handbrake..

@COYOTE83, I know you didn't solicit advice, so I apologize if you've already considered what I'm about to say and made your own decision. I would suggest mounting at least one tire snubber below the tailgate. I don't know if all years of TJs had a snubber down there in the middle, but it does look like you have a hole for one there (mine had one there when I bought it). When I put my Moryde system on, I carefully set the length of that lower snubber so that it put just a smidge of pressure on the tire. That way, as you bounce down the trail, the tire doesn't flex the tailgate as much because the bottom snubber works with the latch pin to stabilize the tailgate/tire assembly. I know that there have been a few posts about tailgates cracking, even with the Moryde kit, so I wanted to do what I could to prevent it. I put some pics in Post 11 in this thread:

Again, you didn't ask for advice, so just ignore me if you've gone your way for good reason.

Ok I gotcha. I used a 20mm or 30mm can I had laying around. I think it’s a 30mm. Anyway it has a bottom in it I just cut out for the parking brake lever and the bracket like @jvvw did and it’s height is just about perfect for a replacement console.
The lid was bad on my old one and this one has a lot more storage and I can semi secure it.

Thanks man. Advice is welcome.
I’ve got the other snubber but the kit only came with 4 spacers so I have to make a spacer out of something.

I still can’t find a matching spare wheel for my spare tire I have. So no worries yet. Lol.
I think I’m just going to order something that is close to my wheels. I was planning on 5 tire rotation so I wanted a matching wheel but my exact wheel style is discontinued M/T simulated beadlocks.

But thanks for reminding me that I need to find a snubber spacer!

I’ll have some front seats available that are in a little better condition than this in about a month if you’re interested.
Thanks for the offer!
I wasn’t too concerned with the seats. Probably just cover them if I do anything.
I do need the rear seat brackets that bolt to the tub if you have any leads.

PM me your address and I'll send you one. I didn't use the Moryde ones and have all four left with no need for them.

cleaned out my storage closet of parts i no longer need.. glad to have some extra space back!

will have a full tuffy center console, tuffy behind the seat trunk, heated trucklites, synergy 1.25" spacers and a few other tidbits up for sale shortly once i clean everything up and take photos!

Spent the afternoon chasing a bad ground that gives me a no start situation. With a jumper cable from the negative battery clamp to the starter body it will fire right off. Without it, I've got nothing. Not there yet, but tomorrow is another day.

I predict that you will need a new ground cable, battery to engine block.

I'm inclined to think you're correct and I appreciate hearing some reinforcement.
Regardless, I just bought it this fall and some cleaning of connections was in order. I put on more beach miles than road miles this time of year.

If it's original equipment corrosion may already be traveling under the casing. Battery cable is cheap.

Installed a Cobra 29, gleaning a lot of great info from other posts. Using a 4ft Firestik. SRF calibrated less than 0.5 on channels 1 and 20, but around 1.5 on 40. So, more research!!View attachment 306280View attachment 306281

Read this from Firestik. You may have to run a ground wire from the tub to the tailgate to help your match. I mounted mine on an L bracket above the driver's taillight. Flat match once I got rid of the tennis ball. Couldn't ask for better.
