LJR long term "rebuild"

Front dual piston 2 3/8” diameter.
Rear dual piston 2” diameter.

Fronts are 60mm which is too much surface area for that master. You'll have to try a Dorman M630162 which is 1 1/8" bore and hope you have enough booster. The rear calipers are exactly twice as big as they should be so you may have to get creative to stop rear lock up in 2 wheel drive.

I can help you figure out a larger vacuum booster if you are running an auto. If you are running a manual, you're likely going to work on getting a hydroboost installed if you need more volume into the fronts to keep the pedal off of the floor. You'll have plenty of pressure with the smaller master you have now, it will just be uncomfortably close to the floor to achieve lock up.

It’s an auto 42RLE. After we bled it down it takes both feet to get it near the floor with engine off. Will run it up and down the street next weekend and report back. I hope it’ll be good enough, but if it’s not safe I’ll throw money at it until it is.

Thanks @mrblaine !

Working in Chicago this week. Guess I impressed the Region Pres. got offered a new role that I’ll learn more about next week in Louisville. Might be a good opportunity, might not? Will investigate either way.

In other news, Willie mounted my fenders and inner fenders today. He works nights so he tinkers in the shop a little during the day. Can’t wait to go play in the rocks! So close!

Well, it started. First time it’s moved under its own power since October.

Hustled today to get all the hard stuff done so I could take it come. Biggest hold up was the tailgate hinges I have won’t work because the armor isn’t cutout for them. I’ll get some flat cast hinges for it. Roll bar painted, seats installed, lights wired up (headlight, taillight, turn anyway), vents on tank and both diffs, loaded all my junk up and borrowed a trailer. Gets a muffler Monday, sounds like a derby car right now. It’s open header. Quick run around the neighborhood, it’s stable, rides great, locks up the brakes but at 3/4 pedal. Might need a bigger master. Still need to put the finishing touches on it. Hitting the trail in a couple weekends. So happy it’s home!

While we’ve been finishing up, I dropped my trailer at another buddies house who has a plasma table. He’s building me some drive over fenders. Should be done today.

Really ready for some seat time.

Nice. I did that to my trailer as well. Fun project.

@mrblaine

I want to upgrade the master. I can deal with it, but it freaks my wife out with the low pedal even if it does lock the tires.

Is the Dorman M630162 my best bet for a bolt in a bleed solution? Seem to be on back order, but fits 02-03 Durango. If that's the case I can just grab another brand.

Just wanted to check with you before I get started.

It is in my world. I don't want to have to modify something to make it work, I just want it to bolt in like normal and not deal with adapters or different thread tube nuts and reflaring.

Up to you. I get them on Amazon from time to time, Rock Auto at other times.

@mrblaine Seems like that part number is obsolete. Can’t find it anyplace. Do you have an alternate that is 1 1/8” bore? Looking ok Rock Auto some show 15/16” some 1 1/8 in the same application.

Beat a new set of u joints in my spare Dana 60 shafts today. Got the parking brake shoes adjusted and the cables ran. Thanks @NashvilleTJ the kit works good. Had to modify the stock parking brake bracket a little but the parking brakes work.

Added the missing bolts I needed for the armor and skid plate as well.

Had to grind away some material on the PSC res bracket to clear the bigger master cylinder res but it’s on. Tomorrow I’ll grab some fluid and bleed. Keep checking things off the list before next weekend.

Checking things off the list for the maiden run this weekend. Got the larger bore master installed. Thanks @mrblaine! Had to trim my PSC bracket and get a little creative to get it in but it fits and the brake pedal is significantly higher now. Bled it twice and seems good to go. Booster seems fine. Locks the tires up easy. Didn’t notice the rear locking first either.

Also installed a washer fluid res taking cues from some other threads. Will prob revise the mounting later. Think it may be leaking too. Not critical. Under hood space is at a premium now.

Bled cooling system and cut threaded snout off the water pump to make room for a two speed Ford Taurus fan. Just barely fits with my cross bar. Have a high/low controller coming. Right now just have low speed but it cools fast enough to cycle off every couple mins.

Also found the quick connect on my fuel line to the rail was leaking when I touched it. Made a new end with some high pressure hose and a Dorman repair fitting.

Also picked up my trailer for a buddy who built drive over fenders for it.

Still have a list of things to finish before Friday but it’s getting shorter.

Almost there. Got the SPOD installed and the compressor mounted in the rear on the fender well. Ran wires, hooked up rock lights, cubes, light bar, compressor, started on heated seats. Replaced air filter and did a quick fluid check.

Power washed floor mats and soft top, vacuumed interior, reinstalled carpet and top. Still need tailgate hinges, should have them tomorrow. The list grows short.
