Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

After some head scratching and testing with a test light I realized I'd ordered a Painless aux panel with 4 switched and 3 always hot. That isn't a huge problem. Once I figured out why stuff wasn't working how I'd thought I got things going.
I had to redo some of my wiring to the PDC but it wasn't hard.
I added a relay to the switched circuit and I was good.

Cleaned up the wires going into the PDC and put it all back together.

While I was at it I reloomed the wires for the onboard welder. The original plastic loom was brittle.

Then I worked on the air lines for the 3 circuits I'm running.

Each airline goes into a regulator for the ARB and AiRock. Then is T'd off to the gauges. And the main line is also T'd to a gauge.

The only thing missing is the fitting for the air tank and the line running to it.

Once I have the tank mounted I'll run the lines for the front and rear air chucks. At this point I think I'm about done with the air system.

I've got an appointment tomorrow with my prosthesis to get my replacement foot. While I'm in town I'll grab some brake fluid so I can get the brakes bleed.

So now I can start working on the interior of the Jeep. I've got to get all the switches wired and things hooked up.

This DAMN thing just keeps fighting me.

I decided I'd hook up the AiRock controller just to see the screen light up. Well HUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM..... Damn it the AiRock isn't working like it's supposed to. So first thing I did was to check the fuse. Yep fuse is good and I've got power and ground but it's still not working.
I'm going to try swapping out the ACU (What ORO calls this)

I have a spare one when I bought a used kit. So I'll see if this is the issue or if it's something else.

My uncle has a sweet jl rubicon. But it has power windows, and you need to disconnect the battery and reboot the sob now and then to get the autistic transmission to do its job

Oh believe me, I feel the pain. We have a JT and a JL hybrid in the family.

If I had a dime for every time I’ve had to deal with some electrical glitch… I would have a couple bucks by now. Everything from simply no AC to not starting on several occasions.

I hope you’ve deleted the stupid auxiliary battery by now?

He had an lj on 35s.the jl on 35s just isn't the same

One thing I can’t argue with is just how capable the new Jeeps are. A JL is insanely more capable and easier to modify than previous Jeeps are.

Everything else though, the size, the “feel”, reliability, electronics, etc leaves much to be desired.

Sure you can run 35s with the tj equivalent of a budget boost.but only thing i like better is the soft top system.quieter and easy to use

The ONLY newer Jeep I'd be interested in would be a JT. And I doubt I'd really want one.
JTs require 37s IMO.

Here’s the one my dad and I built on 40s. Completely dwarfs the LJ:

I had a JK and it was uncomfortable for me to drive based on the driving position.
If I was buying another Jeep it'd either be another TJ or an older CJ.

No LJ for you? 😢

Tried the spare ACU and controller I have and no change.

So it looks like I'll have to take the wiring harness back apart and look for a break in it some place. Not what I was hoping to have to do.

You sure have way more patience and skill than me, when it comes to these things. Wiring is my weakness (one of many).

Hope you’re able to figure it out!

I agree that the JT requires some larger tires.

LJ's are too damn expensive. At one point I was going to sell my TJ and buy a LJ. But this was when I carried 3 people all the time.

You don't know how close I am to chucking a stick of dynamite into my garage.

I did wiring for 25+ years in the Army. Being a generator mechanic it was a required skill.

I went out this morning and cut back the tape on the loom over the AiRock wiring harness to do a little testing. I'd added an extension to both the power & ground wires to allow it to reach the battery easier. And since I was now having problems this was my first place I wanted to check to see if it could possibly be the problem.
Using a test light I verified that I had power past the spliced area so next I used a probe & tested the ground past the spliced area also & it also tested good. So at this point I'm not sure what my next steps should be. But I did reach out to Steve @ ORO to see if he's got any suggestions or tips on what I could do next.

When I bought the used AiRock a while back I'm not sure if it came with the complete harness or not. I've got to find the second box that the other parts are in and see if there is a harness in there. And if there happens to be one then I will hook it up and test things with it to see if I can get it to work. If I can then I'll remove my old harness and install this other one.

Still hoping & fingers crossed that it turns out to be something fairly simple and that I can get this working.
