Bit of background so doesn’t seem odd why asking this when have owned LJ for few years. I am from Missouri but located in Manila PH for several years now. We bought LJ with plans to use it on regular trios to states and then Covid. PH was locked down super tight and my work (clinical trial management for vaccines) went crazy. So March will be our first time for family wheeling trip.

With that out of the way, my daughter is 6, 25kg, 123cm (55lb, 4ft). What precautions do I need to take to keep her safe?

Booster seat (?) and if so is one you recommend.

Any extra safety rules or things I should teach her before we hit trails?
Are you wheeling in Missouri? Go to https://www.modot.org/child-safety-seats for a minimum requirement. If another state look at their laws.

Things to teach - Keep hands and arms inside at all times when moving. No exceptions. If the vehicle starts to go over never grab the roll bar or the side of the Jeep because that is how fingers and hands get detached. Instead teach them to hug themselves to help prevent flailing arms.

Be sure seatbelt is on at all times. Teach her why you are doing things, and explain so she understand… but make it fun and interesting. Maybe put some side quests in; looking for certain bugs or plants… keep her engaged in the trip.

One of my favorite things about jeep drives is honestly the birds, bugs, and plants. There is so much out there you've never seen right in your backyard.

This is a some good stuff!

Kids are the reason I ended up in an lj, coming from toyota pickups.

I just keep the back part of the booster in for my kids, who are both under 8. I need to get on the jk rear seat back project for the headrests.

My first Moab trip my daughter was 6. We drove the Jeep out and back for the first trip and we also attended a wedding in KC on the way out over 2800 miles on the road and 42 hours minimum according to google maps. Drove everything straight through. Went through Telluride and did several passes Imogene, Engineer, Ophir on the way back. Black bear was closed but we drove everything that was open on it.

Three of us in the jeep with all our gear, tools, and my dometic fridge and we intended to do it all solo. Met up with a guy and his son that were from Missouri in a mostly stock JK and wheeled every day for the week with them in Moab.

One thing that I did to keep my daughter engaged was I bought a gimbal mount for our gopro and told her to film whatever she wanted. Most of the video was garbage but she enjoyed it and stayed entertained when she wasn't sleeping.

This seat and neckpillow fit together well to keep her comfy or at least as comfy as possible.

Love seeing all the pictures of folks out with their kids in Jeeps! My son is the reason I was able to finally talk my wife into fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a Wrangler. He's still rear facing at the moment so it's easy to keep him secured, but there's some great input here for the future. My son loves "Jeep Jeep" rides and asks to go almost daily! Right now we don't venture beyond logging roads but he loves being in the woods. I hope to continue getting him out for for bigger and better adventures as the years go on.

And a picture to go with everyone else's. This day was stupid cold with a wind chill of about 5-10 so he was bundled (I forgot my heavy coat on the back of the couch!) and at 10 minutes we got back into the heater! Of course he didn't want to stop playing and watching our dog roll in the snow (that was basically just ice).

I bought a JK rear seat lie 2 years ago with that plan. To many other projects for @LJonloan to finish.

My son started riding with me as soon as he could fit in a forward facing car seat, so 2-2.5, and my daughter will be ready to join soon. Like others have said, you just pack like you're taking the kid on a day trip, plus I carry extra just in case we would have an unexpected event, like staying longer than we planned. Food, water, wipes, at least one change of clothes, basic boo-boo kit. I won't push any limits, and I keep the top on. We also take regular breaks to get out, so ride 30-45 minutes, then 15 minutes to get out and play.

On the topic of kids in the back. Anyone have recent experience with the Bestop rear seat? Welding in a JK seat is beyond my ability and the Bestop rears with headrests popup on Facebook/Craigslist.
