Operation Phoenix

Mopar O2 sensor arrived from Rock Auto and the stainless bungs from Amazon. Drilling a hole in stainless is a royal PIA. Ate a step bit quick. Managed to get a 5/8" hole in and hogged it the rest of the way with a carbide burr.

Test drive was great. Power is back. One lurch/hiccup...but fuel pressure is at 35/38 and falls to 10 after a couple of hours. I thought I put my new regulator in during the thrash (guess I should rewatch the video)... driving out as much gas as I can and going to drop the tank...which is a great time to finish fixing the bumper.

Stevie Wonder weld that 02 bung? 😁

Got the exhaust wrap on a couple of days ago...been waiting for the last custom fuel pressure regulator from Amazon. They can get me nerf darts in two days and it takes two weeks for a critical part. Custom isn't making the pressure regulator mentioned in the how to guide for rebuilding your pump assembly.

Today I dropped the tank, replaced the regulator in just under an hour. Really shows how many times I've done it.

Unfortunately my fuel pressure is exactly the same 35-38 psi...was expecting 40-43 so either I am mistaken about the expected pressure or my gauge is inaccurate. Either way the original wasn't holding pressure, the o rings were crispy...and I had an opportunity to get the ring nut on good and tight...twice during the 1600 mile road trip fuel overflowed from the tank. That was either the bad o rings, loose but, all or none of the above. Vent hoses look fine.

Poured in 5 gallons of gas and took it for a spirited drive. Not stumbling any more and what I would call a lean stumble in the idle seems better.

New cat probably solved all my problems and everything else was chasing ghosts.

Back to framing my shop. Trusses in 12 days and I gotta get er done.

Been puttering on details.

Got the new Luk master slave bled after screwing up and pushing the rod out. Basically just unbolted it from the transmission and pushed the slave rod in a dozen times with the master lid off. Topped off the fluid and it's perfect.

Still want to find a barbed fitting or something to patch the line... seems like something super easy to have in my magic Crown bag of tricks.

Messed around with the speed sensor. Tried figuring out from research how to clock the housing and then realized that I already knew where it shouldn't be... actually two of the four possible positions. So I rotated it another 90 degrees and presto it's working perfectly albeit all the in and out might be seeping fluid. Going to run the torn up gear for a week and put in the one I bought for 35s...never installed it because the one for 33s was pretty damn close. And drain and flush all the plastic out. Might get my endoscope in and see if I can see the screen on the oil pump... hopefully not jammed with plastic bearing chunks.

Missing bolt on my Swayloc. Can't identify the thread and pitch...think it's M8 or 5/16 fine... nothing fitting. Reverse thread?

Check engine light came on for the speedo sensor. No return of cylinder 6 injector or downstream O2. Cleared, clocked and hasn't returned.

Part 5 YouTube drops Wednesday morning...1-3 are live now. Had to YouTube edit 3 because I forgot to delete and trim off 4... sometimes easier to edit all the footage and then find natural breaks.

Took the bumper off the JK. My poor tortured M8000 winch works perfectly despite being the tip of the spear that killed my Jeep... perhaps it was revenge for cooking three motors.

I accidentally popped the retaining clip on my pre-bled Sachs master/slave before getting it in. Is there another way to bleed those kits with it installed? Also, the hard line right under the master cylinder isn't super tight (tried to tighten it up to no luck). I could spin it when it wasn't attached to the firewall. DO you know if that is normal with those?

Long time no updates here... replaced the starter with one from O'Reilly's a month or ago.

Saved up enough for Savvy control arms and they arrived today. Took an hour just to roughly assembly the arms, nuts and JJs.

Spent most of the evening dialing in the front end...arms installed and since I had cam washers I lost my castor...but the arms made it easy to dial in 6 degrees with my digital angle finder. Adjusted the uppers...not sure if that was correct but test drive was smooth.

On to the rear tomorrow...

Finished installing the rear arms a couple days ago. Ran into town for some fuel safe tfe paste...guess I hit the railroad crossing a little too hard.

That's the second time and third Black Max shock I've blown.

Guess I really need to check bump stops.

Has SJ been replacing them under warranty?

First two yes. Then they got bent when the accident happened...drivers side at least...thought I kept the passenger side but haven't found it yet.

So I bought two more...those were purchased in June...so either I killed it sans properly set bump stops or it died after what 10 months?

I break shit.

Meanwhile I went to install my on rail fuel pressure gauge...and discovered the Racetronic QD I ordered was 3/8" and not 1/4". So more parts needed.

In discovering this I also found the Schrader valve was loose on the fuel rail. Disconnecting the cap caused fuel to spray out. Tightened it up with a Schrader valve tool and it's holding pressure now.

Sigh. And the tractor overheated so that needs fixed and the lift needs the carburetor rebuilt. Tomorrow...

Were your shocks bottoming out? Blackmax are on my short list but I've seen them blow out quite a bit here and other places

Not until I put Savvy arms on and hit a railroad crossing at 60 mph.

I am not driving an ultra 4 car, I am not driving an ultra4 car, I am not driving an ultra 4 car...

Previous blown shock was heading to Montana off-road from Oregon. Loaded for bear with ProComp 4" springs. Replaced them with Currie 4" and gained two inches.

I see outboard foxes in your future. Paul poplin the racer and shock tuner( what is his name?) Is in oregon right?

Ok... Skyjacker support answered their email on Sunday... actual person...and asked for all the information I provided in my initial email. No tracking number yet so I don't know if I have a shock on the way.

Meanwhile I ordered the 5/16 QD 1/8 port fitting from Racetronix and confirmed my fuel pressure is about 10 psi low. Both my 20 year old gauge and the new one I installed on the rail agree.

So...my original Bosch housing died in the accident. I'm running the 2.4 housing with my pump and a new pressure regulator. I bought a new Bosch Brazilian pump on Amazon and it died after a month.

I have a cheap pump in my trail spares box under my driver seat.

But I think I'm going to order a cheap pump assembly from Rock Auto and roll the dice.

Looks like no replacement shock for a couple of weeks.

Sorry for the delay, I have the order put in to ship the replacement but the warehouse is waiting on more stock to arrive. We get shocks trucks on Fridays typically so it might come in today… I think worst case next Friday.

Ok...cheap ass designed in the USA Brute Power fuel pump installed and I finally have 50 psi of fuel pressure.

Will this pump last? Who knows. But my beat to hell Mopar unit is standing by just in case...even though it does 33, 35 at best.

Anyone want to guess how long it lasts?
