1997 TJ 4.0 to LS 5.3 Gen 3 Swap

Those who are running a 5.3 engine with the Jeep transmission, and transfer case, are you removing all the transmission wires off the GM harness??

Also cost wise, will be cheaper to run the 5.3 with its 4l60e transmission compare to running with my manuel AX15?
I love the manual, but if cost difference is huge thn I may go auto. I can get the gm 4l60e transmission for $200 from the door car on which I got the 5.3 from.

Some generations of vortec can be programmed to run the older cable throttle body, look it up.

As far as the harness wires, you decide how far you want to go into it.

Manual vs auto you need to compare adapter costs and options.you're assuming that 4l60e is in good shape.it could be trash. Look at advanced adapter and novak. Either will probaby need driveshaft mods too

Bellhousing & then a new clutch kit with flywheel

Auto trans adapter but as Rickyd said you might have to have the trans rebuilt. And from my experience even if it's OK I'd still have it rebuilt

https://www.advanceadapters.com/4l60e-hex-patternnp231-23t

For the auto trans, whats in that kit is all that is needed?
Looks like $1200 to run the manual trans, and $500 the auto, unless there is other things the auto trans will need..?

You'll have to research and find out what else you might need.

adapter to the Jeep 23 spline New Process transfer case is 3.00 in length. And the overall length of the transmission and adapter is 24.875”.

Does this length affect you? I don't think so but?

Novak sells theirs for $700

https://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/adapters/transmission-to-transfer-case/4l60e-to/kit-4l61/

I'd figure out which of them includes the most complete kit and go from there. I've used both previously and had good customer service from them.

Will get on the phone with novak and advance to figure out the cost difference between the gm auto vs the jeep manual.

Going with the gm trans will allow me to build this on the side while using the jeep until am ready to pull the jeep drive train. Space is limited. So will see.

Good luck with it and keep us posted. While I understand the desire to want to keep your manual I also know the pluses to swapping to a automatic.
About a year after I'd done my V-8 swap I had to have my transmission rebuilt which is why I'm suggesting that you have yours rebuilt if you go that route.

Manual AX15 Transmission: Advance adapter has a kit for $2300 + $396 for electric fan. Has anyone use it?
For the same parts, Novak price is about $3200, that's about $500 difference.

Gm 4l60E Transmission: Advance adapter pricing to run the automatic comes to about $1500 + $396 electric fan, and no need to open up the transmission if its a 4x4. That's about $800 less

Any other sources with better pricing?

Anyone running the bellhousing clutch kit for the AX15 from Quick Draw Brand? The price seems reasonable and from what am reading, it allows to run clutch parts found in auto part stores.

I am and its WAY better than the Novak. But I for some reason did not get instructions in mine and apparently sid not have the throwout fork adjusted right the first time and had to drop the trans after a few months. Once it was setup right, everything was way better than I thought it could be.

Here is some info on LS swapping that may help. I still need to write up the part about wiring.

Good to hear. Will read up the thread. I have both the Ax15 and 4l60e transmission I could use, but if there is a cheaper kit for the AX15, that will be my preference as I want to keep the manual.

Started by stripping the 5.3L, clean it and replaced all the gasket. I decided to retain the AX15 transmission and will go with the Quick Draw brand bellhousing kit.
