Hey guys i haven't posted here for awhile but thought id stop in and ask for opinions.

My LJR is currently on an old, tired 2.5" spring lift w/ 1.25" BMB body lift and 285/75/16 (33") Toyo RT's on Moabs. I ran over a screw and punctured a tire. I tried to plug it myself (not an expert on that) but it kept losing air. I headed down to my local Discount for a permanent patch and they said "the inner tire is split, you'll need a new tire".

The tires are only 2.5 years old, but have enough tread wear to warrant a new set if i have to replace 1. My plan was to ride these until bald, then build up to and buy 35's.

The Jeep is not a primary vehicle but does see road driving on occasion. I also don't have a trailer for it currently. I recently bought an old 89 C2500, and plan to slowly overhaul it to be my secondary vehicle and in a perfect world, eventually a tow rig for the LJ. But for now, the Jeep is how i get around when the Mrs. is out at Costco and it drives itself to the trails.

Whats everyone's thoughts? Do i buy a new set of 33's and stick with my current, underperforming Jeep lift, or use God's screw in the road as an excuse for bad financial decisions? I can post pics of the tire on my lunch break if anyones interested.

Okay so one vote for keeping the 33's and boring 2" lift. Everyone, boo Mac.

I am going to price out the 35's wishlist i created sometime ago. I should need springs, shocks and control arms to start, but probably a new set of drive shafts as well.

I do have the Currectlync steering and Dana 44 F/R, but still on stock wheels and 4.10 gears.

Heartbreaking to have a tire die after only 2 years, damn near killing the set. Shoulda bought 5!

Then what, you pop a 35 and need to build it again? Just go straight to tons and 40s

Then what?

Since your plan was always to build up for 35s, then evaluate if you can do that now.

You could always search for a cheap used 33 to hold you over if you need a couple of months to build it up.

But, if it’s best for you to build up for 35s later, go get a set of 33s and upgrade when it’s a better time for you. You can always sell the 33s on Marketplace later.

Can you lock up the 33s? I waited to add 35s until I was ready for 35s. Build for 35s and then put them on. As much as I wanted to slap on 35s before I was ready, I waited. So I have to recommend waiting until you are ready.

I ran 35's on my Jeep for several years with 2.5"ish lift and 1.25" body lift. Granted, uptravel was lacking,I estimate ~1" but didn't notice the lack up uptravel unless driving through neighborhood gutters with a speed certainly higher than necessary.

At the time it was on short arms, some cheap-o Teraflex shocks, and it was re-geared.

At a min, if you can adjust the bumpstops and re-gear (if you already haven't) in the relatively near future, my vote is 35's. If either of those are off the table, my vote is 33's.

I don't recollect anyone telling me that they wish they had gone to a smaller tire, except for @MikeE024 :ROFLMAO:
