32s vs 33s: Let’s see em!

Thanks. The little TJ is coming along.

I used some 2” diameter x .25” thick rubber washers I bought off ebay to shim the 3rd brake light upwards. Used 3 of these .25” thick washers under each of the 4 bolts to raise the light 3/4” to clear the top of the tire. The bolts are plenty long enough to add the rubber shims. People use all manor of available shims to achieve this. I just bought a package of 25 of these rubber washers for 15 bucks.

The 33” tire I had to shim the two upper rubber tire anti-rattle stabilizers out 1/2” to contact my new tire. This was because my new wheel has one less inch backspacing which caused the tire to not contact the upper rubber donuts. So used 2 each of the 1/4” thick rubber washers under those donuts and problem solved. The torx screws that hold the donuts had to be replaced with 1/2” longer ones. Depending on your tire width and backspacing changes, you will need to adjust the height of those stabilizer donuts that keep the tire from vibrating and cracking your tire carrier. Again you can use any manor of shim to achieve the desired results. I just had the rubber washers already.

Right on, I'm wanting to buy a new set of KO2's for my jeep. Right now the tires on the ground are 265/75/16, but the spare is the smaller 245/75/16. I figured the PO didn't want to fool with adjusting the third brake light and left the little tire on the back.
Are you running the BFG KO2's on your jeep? I can't really tell by looking at the little picture on my phone. Lol

Yes. I just got around to changing my spare to Match. Mine are actually the newer style KM3 Mud Terrains. BFG is phasing out the KM2’s so there is limited size selection in the old KM2 MT’s.

View attachment 27761 33" OME 2.5 HD lift with JKS 1.25" BL

I'm new to owning a Jeep and to the forum itself. There's a lot of good info to be found here. I have a basically all stock '03 TJR I picked up a few days ago and I'm trying to read and learn as much as possible. I know there are other similar setups in this thread but I remembered this was on page 1. I do believe this is the look I will be going for.

I can do the lift and tires now but I think black wheels would really set it off. Then there's the issue of the stock carrier and I can see the snowball already starting to form....

32’s are beautiful on a TJ and more capable than many would imagine. I’ve seen them run at Moab on Hell’s Revenge and run the Escalator. The guy behind him was in an LJ on 40’s and never could do it. My point is driving is an art and 32’s with lockers is very capable in the right hands.

I have 33’s. It’s more capable, in the right hands, and much more expensive.

Currently running 33x12.50xr15 on a ‘01 Sport 4.0 Auto with 4 inches of lift, stock fender flares. Found a set of 32x11.50r15 on Craigslist with around 70% tread for a price that is hard to pass up. Curious as to what differences might be noticed as far as appearance and performance.

32x11.5x15 on a 2" budget boost, 3.73 and a 32rh tranny. I would want to least 4.10 gears with 33's, would also have a lot of clearance issues with stock wheels. I am considering putting 1.25 spacers on to get more clearance now with the 32's. I have had to put 2 washers under the steering stops to stop scrubbing on the front, and only have about 3/8" between the back tires and spring perches on the back. I think that extra inch tall would not be worth all the extras that would be needed to go with them unless you did go with the 10.5 wide 33's. I have a Sahara, so without the spacers my tires are just up under the flares, if I put the spacers on I may not like all the mud/gravel getting thrown at me with the doors and windows off.

32x11.5 15 BFG KO2's on a 5.25" backspace wheel under a 4" lift and MCE 4.5" fenders.

Next tires will be 33x10.5 KM3's.

Thank you! Just bought it 2 months ago. LOVE IT!
They are super fun, as you have already found out. I hope you get a Spidershade for when you get that top off in FL. It will make the top off so enjoyable, like no other convertible on the planet
