DAY IDK +1: Woke up with plans to put the skid back on. Boy comes to me and says, "This would be a good time to do change the Transmission fluid." I'm so glad he said that (that was my plan). We already had a new Dorman pan with drain plug, so we just drilled the stock pan. I"m going to tap it and add a plug for someone else or as backup if they somehow careen this one. Lubelocker gasket, transmission filter, and Mopar ATF+4 was all ready to go, so they went to work with my assistance. When they were about to put the new filter in, I got interrupted by my daughter who decided to ride her hoverboard through a puddle of water 5" deep. "Won't work dadd!" Ya think. So I'm taking that apart and blowing out all the water off the circuitry. Meanwhile, the boys finish up. They drivec the Jeep out, put Mom's car back, all done, feeling good. I walk over to the box that had the Transmission filter in it and there's a little O-Ring in there. "Boys, what's this? You always go through the box contents and figure out what everything is before installing." They have this devastated look on their face, after which one of them starts quickly justifying why it may not be necessary.
I told them," YOu research it and see, I'm not doing that, I didn't make this mistake." 5 minutes later, "Yes, we have to install it or the fluid won't go through the filter." Good, they learned something.
10 minutes later they're still in the garage. I walk out and snap a pic of them.
One of them looks at me and says, "Dad, I remember working on your Jeep many times and we'd say, "Alright, we're almost done, let's get this done, and we'd get it all doen and then something would be not done, so we'd take it apart and do it again. When you have a Jeep, you're not done, you're never done, you think you're done, but the Jeep is never done, if you drive it off a cliff, you're done, but the Jeep's not done, you'll never finish a Jeep!" - 15 year old Joshua.
