2.4l Oil Pan depth?

Hey guys, just joined. Picked up an 06 2.4l se a few months ago for my son.

Strange request... can someone with a 2.4l measure the depth of their oil pan?

the 06 2.4l calls for 5 qts of oil. when we change the oil, the dip stick is showing on the low mark. I'm thinking someone may have replaced the oil pan with a deeper one.

Maybe @StG58 or @TJ4Jim can. They both have 4 cylinder TJs.

I have the 2.5, so it's a different engine. Dipsticks have been known to lie. Put the amount of oil called for in the manual in there and see what the results are. Since you put the required 5 quarts in, and it shows low, I would suspect the dipstick before the oil pan. Occasionally a dipstick gets lost and replaced with another from the same engine but a different vehicle. Sometimes the little rubber grommet slips and doesn't get adjusted correctly. Look on the oil pan to see if there is RTV sealant squeezed out that doesn't look factory. That might indicate if the oil pan has been changed out as well.

The engine was just completely rebuilt at 110k miles due to excessive crankshaft end play pushing the front bearing out and causing a major oil hemorrhage. Started 2 months after purchase

In 2012 the jeep was involved in a front-end collision and was a total loss at 54k miles... it was completely rebuilt and issued a rebuilt title. Honestly the only place you can tell there was any damage is where the yellow paint chipped off under the hood and showing the original red color of the replacement hood. I'm wondering if the oil pan was damaged and replaced with a different 2.4l pan.

Good lord that thing is clean.

I can't comment on the dipstick length though. It's possible someone also just put a different dipstick in there as well.

I have the 2.4, will measure the stick tomorrow. At work currently. More likely a wrong dipstick than a deeper pan.

Wrong dipstick is my guess as well. Seems more unlikely it would be the pan.

Apologies for the delay; from the bottom of the handle/ring to the tip is exactly 26 1/2 inches. That is the total length inserted into the tube.

Something else to check is to make sure the dip stick tube is fully seated.

I have a problem with the oil showing way low in my 2003 wrangler.It has the 2.4 4cyl.I had a new dipstick put in years back for my daughter.when I recently had it changed it came up really low.Thought that they had put the wrong dipstick in,but the new one I ordered was the same exact one.It only calls for 4 quarts with filter.I drained the pan and put 4 quarts without changing filter and it is now at the add mark.?

The 2.4 oil capacity is 5 qts. Have you measured the dipstick to make sure you have the right one? My earlier post:
