2.5 Stroker

It's probably the easiest engine swap if you're trying to go to something larger but there are good points to adding a V-6 over a V-8. If that is the route he decides then yes the 4.3 V-6 is a good option. Just will take more work than a magnum.

When I still had my 2.5 I looked at the stroker kits and turbo kits. I almost bought an Avenger supercharger while I was deployed to Iraq. One popped up on Ebay but was missing some parts so I was trying to get a hold of Avenger first to make sure I could get the missing parts and it sold.
I was looking for a Dakota bellhousing to swap in a AX-15 which was how I'd ended up calling Backwoods Off-Road who did my V-8 swap. And after talking to him he convinced me to forget the turbo or supercharger idea and just go V-8. Can't say it was the best choice but I do enjoy the V-8.
Be happy you did not buy that Avenger. Northern 4x4 years ago bought one for 4.0 and a 2.5 and then proceeded to fight with Avenger to make them work and failed as there was no way to tune back then.

Yep I remember all the tunning issues they had back then too.

I think Kenne Bell figured it out first. When you purchased their supercharger kit for the 4.0, before they would ship it you had to send them your ECU to be flashed. They would not sell it otherwise. Their tune was good right out of the box. I’m telling you my supercharged I6 was one of the most reliable engines I’ve ever driven. And it was all about KB’s tune.

Yes I did a bit of looking into a turbo. I found with my lack on knowledge on a turbo setup was going to make it cost far more than a v8 swap. The brief excitement over a Stroker 2.5 was based on a drop in option, however once I found some real world HP numbers that excitement quickly faded.
Once I did a bit of research on a magnum swap it was clear it was the best option.

505 has a 2.5 Stroker engine. They claim 185HP. What issues does a Stroker cause? Do they play nice with the TJ sensors? Will they run with the stock fuel system?

I just finished installing the stroker from 505 last month. It runs great. I haven't had it dyno'd, but my set up is the 2.5-3.1 stroker from 505 (included an improved cam, hydro lifters, roller rockers and custom head), stock ECU, cold air intake, msd ignition, AX15,62mm TB with spacer, long tube headers, 30lb RPM injectors, in a race prepped 96 Dakota. Unfortunately, I haven't had any track time since I swapped, so I can't say if it's really making the 210hp we aimed for. What I can say is that when you place your order with him, he will customize the build to your specs and the finished product looks, feels and sounds great. That being said, after you place your order expect a pretty long build time, I think it was about 5 months from when I put down my 3k deposit to engine showed up. After tax and other stuff my build was 3700 to 505, then about 1000i spent on other stuff to go with. In February I race at barber's and that'll be the first track new motor will get that old motor also got, so I won't know till then how much faster. If you got questions, or wanna see the build you can find my race team in Facebook. Winded warrior racing.
