I posted this on Facebook group and figured I would ask the experts here.

I have a 2004 TJ 42RLE Automatic Wrangler Apx 148000 miles. I have recently started having issues with a slight slip going into 4th gear. When I checked the fluid level it was low and added almost a Qt of ATF+4. No change in issue. I did notice existing fluid was NOT red but almost clear. Maybe previous owner added wrong kind.
My plan is to drop pan drain and fill then drive around for a bit to mix the fluid with the existing fluid. Then drain and fill again (maybe twice) to get the old fluid completly out.
I have questions
  1. How many miles will I have to drive to get the new fluid mixed in with the old?
  2. Can I safely remove the front skid plate in the photos or is it (as someone stated in a video) it is part of the frame.
  3. Can I drive it without the skid plate or will the question 2 question cause problems?
Any other ideas, comments, etc? I do not have the resources to change soloniod if it comes down to that. Anyone know the cost of the solonoid swap? Im in AZ
