2005 TJ X

Is the spare tire to heavy for the Exogate? Surea eats up what little space you had in the back.

No is the short answer; the Exogate does its job. Yes, my tailgate was beginning to show signs of failure but only after doing bigger and more challenging obstacles. What was happening on steep ascents, my front end would just dance (barely touch) on the way up. Moving the spare tire over the rear axle will help on steep ascent. AND the entire assembly is easily removable and I can reinstall my gate mounted tire carrier at will.

I have had the Exogate installed for about 3+ years without any real issues. It wasn't until after spending 2 weeks in Moab, 2 weeks in Blanding, and Green River, and 2 weeks in St. George that it became obvious that I had to do something. I was doing more complex obstacles in a TJ which is already limited by the short wheelbase. I hope it works.
