Up for sale is a great example of an unmolested Jeep TJ. This 2006 TJ Sport is in excellent condition and drives strong, both locally and on the highway up to Tahoe from the SF Bay Area. I have been using it as a daily driver for a couple of months and taken a couple of camping trips up to the Sierras without any issues. I have a copy of the Carfax for your inspection and it states I am the second owner of the Jeep. It does a have a salvage title from some damage but I cannot find any evidence as what that damage was as it was repaired long before I owned it. The frame and all body panels look straight with no noticeable repairs or replacements. The suspension is stock and the underside of the Jeep is rust free. The Jeep is currently registered and insured without any issues in California. It also was smogged recently so you will be good for a while. Smog testing in CA is insane so if it passes here, it should pass in any other state. I also, have the title in hand. Definitely worth the time to take a look.
In order for me to have gotten my salvage title in California I had to pass a fairly rigorous inspection. Smog, headlight position and level, all light checks, brake check (pad width, rotors not out, parking brake), tire thread, DMV VIN verification. Just to give you an idea of the condition of the rig.
The good:
The Jeep is totally stock (except for tires) with no modifications that I can tell. Cheap mods and bad lift kits can really ruin a good rig.
There is no sign on any rust on the frame or underbody of the jeep. (one small bubble on the front fender). Currently a California car and previously from Hawaii so there is NO rust in the usual areas.
The inline 4.0 liter 6 cyl is strong and gets up to highway speeds well with no smoking or knocks. No sign of oil leaking, the block is dry on the outside. No indications of head gasket leak.
The 6 speed manual transmission and clutch are in great shape with no evidence of slipping.
Low range and 4x4 works well.
Brakes are good. The pads are from before I owned the rig but passed inspection without any issues.
The Paint is a great 20' car and a decent 10' car. It is a jeep after all. I get plenty of comments all the time about it. The underside is clean.
I replaced the soft top with a brand new upgraded sail cloth (same as JK soft tops) material top. Definitely quieter and I think better looking. I also just replaced the plastic door surrounds as mine were missing when I bought it.
All lights work well. Recently replaced the bulbs in the fog lights.
Tires are in great shape with plenty of life left. Spare is brand new.
Air conditioning blows cold.
replaced coolant sensor
Interior is completely stock except for the rear view mirror. It is wired for the temp gauge but a replacement one was insanely expensive.
The bad:
It needs a new battery. It jumps perfectly every time. When I use a spare battery from another car there are no issues.
There is a slight leak in the power steering reservoir lines. I filled the reservoir once 2 months ago and have not filled it since. You just notice a bit of wetness on the lines and a drop or two every once in a while. The wetness starts below the plastic reservoir so I know that the pump and reservoir are fine.
Common to these jeeps, the pull cable in the front seats are broken. This can be fixed using a bicycle brake cable and there are numerous forums online regarding this fix. I mostly drive with the top down so it's not really a problem for me.
Will be fixing ASAP:
Clockspring (have parts, need to install)
Registration good to May 2018
I've uploaded as many photos of the under body as I could because I know real Jeepers like to see things like that! Please let me know if you have any request for photos.
Asking $12,250 OBO. Honestly not sure about the price on the rig. My local 4 Wheel Parts gave me a $12,500-$13,500 estimate on the value of the Jeep in my area because of the title status but being a rust free CA car. I'm just looking to get my money back out of the Jeep and move onto the next project.
