3rd position on fan knob dead

Lost the 3rd position on my fan knob for the cabin air. Am being told I need a resistor. Where is a good place to pick one up. AutoZone didn't have it. Amazon? Anyone have the part number I'm looking for? Thanks guys!

Individual resistors in a resistor pack can and do go bad leaving just one fan speed inoperative. A resistor pack is made up with 3 individual resistors so if just one resistor goes bad, just that one speed disappears.

Of course it could also be a bad switch or on an older TJ, the wiring could have started going bad too.

The usual root cause of fan speed problems is a fan motor that is going bad. When it starts going bad, its windings have begun shorting out which causes the fan to start drawing excessive current. That is the usual root cause of things like bad fan switches, resistor packs, and melted wiring.

So this morning I turned on the jeep to warm it up and went back inside. When I came back out the fan was off. None of the positions work. I'll start with the fan switch and move on from there. Quadratec is right down the road so I can get the part this afternoon.

Mine had a similar issue when I bought it. One of the " fan speeds" wouldn't work.
I replaced the switch and no more issues.

Did you check the fuse?
