5 speed needs to be refreshed

I have the 5 speed manual, until it gets warm it ends to grind annoyingly when shifting. When it warms up it behaves a bit more civilized, but not perfectly. I am guessing it has been rode hard and put away wet. Syncros worn most likely? I understand the 5 speed is better than the 6 speed for desert application so I'll probably get this one rebuilt rather than chance a junkyard buy. Clutch was replaced before I bought it, no telly what past sins it endured. Now the big question, rebuild it in Dubai or bring it home for a Florida rebuild. Any advice on this tranny? BTW, still driveable, but I don't like scratchy shifting.

What gear lube did you change it to? For your NV3550 I'd switch to Redline MTL and see if that helps if you perhaps used something like Pennzoil/GM Synchromesh that is known to cause worse shifting.

After I changed my fluid, it took few thousand miles to clean up.

same with mine. it was shifting terrible and I changed the fluid (GL-4) to synthetic and after about a month I noticed that it was shifting so much better

I put in the Redline MTL and it is shifting much better. That is an easy place to start, fluid upgrade.

Also, it helps to shift slower. I can grind second easily but when I shift from first I shift, pause for a second, and finish into 2nd.

Perhaps mine will smooth out. I used Sta-Lube. I have to buy via Amazon and USPS. Believe it or not, oil is expensive in the middle east and usually some clown brand.
