Alternator replacement suggestions

Well I replaced my battery, I used my tester and it said the battery was bad...800CCA and was only doing 450 after overnight on the charger. That's fine.

Well I was just curious today as I was doing other things and decided to check to see if it was charging....well I tested at the alternator lug and it was fluctuating between 12 and 13V. So....replace the alternator....I am getting ready to install a winch, stereo and very small 4 channel digital amp. I want to go ahead and replace the alternator.

I would like to go to a high output, but not sure of all the names nor the amount of output I really need nor brand.

Suggestions???

IF you are upgrading the alternator to accommodate the winch and a few other accessories; do not forget to upgrade your battery cables, firewall ground cable and the fusible link wire (Big 7 cables) between the alternator and the PDC (fuse box) stud.

This swap should work on all 1997 to 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJs with the 4.0 engine. I don't know about the 4 cylinder engines however. What you'll need is the alternator from a 2001-2006 Dodge Durango 4.7L V8 or the 2004 Dodge Durango 3.7L. Those models have the 160 amp alternator that will work with our TJs, and give you the extra power you're looking for.

The part number for the alternator you'll need is 56029914AA. Both alternators will work, and both are 160 amp. Why they have different part numbers are beyond me, but they are both confirmed as working.

I already installed the big wiring kit for the 4.0L engine which is what I have.

Good to know about the Durango alternator. Is there a specific brand to go with or stay away from?

A little difficult to find but got a 160 amp Denso reman for the Durango.

Denso reman might be interesting. We know Denso is quality. If Denso did the reman...great...but if someone else slapped low quality parts in a Denso alternator then who knows...

Tough to say....it was Rock Auto....couldn't come upon another one. Had a coupon...so was about the same as anything else. I understand what you are saying and we will see. Cross my fingers.

Well I am cheating....they don't ship to AZ....but I am shipping to IN and then self ship to AZ....in the end with my coupon and lingering gift certificate it is cheaper than anything else for me, so really I can't lose.....will be $100 total all in....of course I am using pirate ship to get it back to AZ for me. So its worth the gamble.
