Amsoil 5w-30 Syncromesh Transmission Oil

I have just got a 2001 TJ manual transmission and shifting from 1st to second at higher rpm gears grind same with down shift. If I shift under 2,000 rpm and under 20 mph no grinding.

Has anyone tried the amsoil synchro mesh 5w-30? I saw a you tube video where the guy had a similar issue. He out this in and it stopped.

I used it in the past in my 2008 JKU Wrangler that had the 6-speed manual. It worked fine and I had no issues.

It's on the short list for when I change fluid in my 05 TJ along with Red Line MTL.

I used Red Line when I flushed the old NV3550 and it smoothed out shifts and eased the cold shifting grind. No complaints.. until the transmission completely shit the bed.

I used Royal Purple in the AX15 that replaced the NV3550 a few months ago. It was a shit show. Challenges getting into first. Cold weather stiffness. And a very weird and concerning RPM-specific buzzing sound in all gears. To have that happening in a brand new AX15 is really unsettling.

Changed to Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil in the AX15 and it now feels and sounds like a brand new AX15. All the noises, stiffness and first gear lockout is 100% remedied. And it is far cheaper per quart than both Redline and Royal Purple.

Strange how different oils have so different results from folks. Is it mechanical or human perception? When I got the Jeep it had royal purple. At the suggestion of this forum I changed to redline. It got worse. Went back to royal purple and it’s back to acceptable. Now……thanks @MikekiM i want to try Joe Gibbs.
My nv3550 most of the times shifts good but pretty much every drive the first gear and sometimes reverse is stiff. It’s just a rough shifting tranny.

My NV3550 wasn't horrible. Cold mornings required double clutching. The expected bag-o-spanners sound at idle. And then, out of nowhere, with no warning.....

I really didn't expect the fluid change in the AX15 to resolve the issues.. Really thought I was going to have to live with it or pull the transmission and go on a witch hunt. A transmission swap was certainly not something I ever thought I'd do but with the pain of paying for it now fading, and all the niggles ironed out, it's a joy.

I’m willing to try it just skeptical of using the lighter weight in the heat of South Florida

I have tried the Amsoil and the Redline MTL. The Amsoil was better for cold shifting but when the oil warmed up my transmission wanted to stick shifting from 3rd to 4th. I was hoping this would work out in a few weeks but it continued so I changed back to Redline MTL. This took care of the sticky shifting issue and other than having shift slow when it's cold I will be running Redline in it from now on. I have tried the Redline MTL, Royal Purple, and Amsoil and Redline MTL gives me the most consistent shifting.

Redline MTL only. I had syncromesh in my 2000 NV3550 when I got it that the shop the PO had a new clutch put in a month before I bought it. It would cause the gears to grind into 2 & 3. I swapped in Redline MTL and it went away.

Syncromesh gear oil will eat at the brass bearings in the transmissions.

I finally got around to changing the transmission fluid and there is no longer an issue. It looks like the transmission fluid was low and was causing the issue.
