I'm new here. I just found out my current car has been deemed a total loss by my insurance company due to some crazy hail in the DFW area last week. I never liked the car, so no loss (my ex-wife liked it though). I was planning on getting it ready to sell in the next few months and dreading the thought of that process. The insurance company has offered a very reasonable amount for my totaled ride and thus I find myself here. I hope to learn as much as I can about Jeep Wranglers from people that actually own them.

A few of my friends have Wranglers and I grill them all the time about what to look for when buying. I tend to get mesmerized by the cool mods and stuff I see on Jeeps for sale (they're so freaking cool). I want to make my Jeep my own so I know I need to stop looking at tricked out models. I do want what I purchase to be reliable, not looking for a project. I don't mind working on it from time to time but that can't be ALL do with it. I'll plan on taking it off-road but nothing too crazy (famous last words).

This forum seems like a great resource. Hopefully I'll be posting pics soon of my Jeep. Back to reading.

My buddy lives in the DFW area and sent me photos of that hail... That stuff was HUGE (Trump voiceover).

Keep us posted in your search. You'll find there's a ton of knowledgable folks here, and we'll be happy to guide you in the buying process if you post up some of the TJs you end up looking at!

Big things to look for in my opinion are how banged up the bottom is and frame rust. I wouldn't think rust would be a big issue where you are though. Then it's just shopping for a good deal. If you don't need the extra power the 4 cyl. is an OK option for saving money. Look for one that has a dana 44 rear axle and you will be money ahead in the long run if you ever decide to run larger than 33" tires. (I've got a 35 and am no too worried about it, I figure someday I'll swap in a custom axle(s))
