Any suggestions on fixing rust?

Hi everybody I'm new to the whole jeep thing. I'm 17 and just got my first jeep like a month and a half month ago it is a 2001 60 year anniversary addition in black. I was really happy to find it at a ok price. I have done a few mods to it already like new wheels and tires and some bumpers. I've also just painted some things that where faded and all that. There is some rust on the frame in the standard rear area but I was expecting that from a 20 year old car from Minnesota. I was just wondering if anybody had some suggestions for me as to where I could get it fixed if there is a good frame shop of off-road shop that would be able to do that sort of thing. (I would also love to know if anybody had any tips for me as well)

Awesome, good stuff on owning a Jeep and working on it yourself.

You may want to post some pics of the frame area, I’m in Texas and rust is not a specialty for me, but many rust belters can say if it’s serious etc and what to investigate.

Tips would be to drive it, and see what you learn. See what you’d like to do differently, before you jump into it.

Second, spend your spare time reading threads in the How to sections here, and see what people are doing and why. I saw things I didn’t know, then searched more, learned, and pieced it all together on the areas that were new to me (and I’m old, ha).

Last document all that you have. Figure out what’s there, so you know and see if anything was done previously you may not be aware of, because it could be good or it could be bad.

Yeah, post pics of the entire frame, especially under the skid plate and where the frame curves over the rear wheel.

As for repairing the Jeep; living in that city may present a problem getting repairs accomplished since a lot of shops that were open for business may be closed or worse.
As others have posted; do a thorough inspection of the your vehicle suspension, drivetrain, frame, engine, wiring and create a list of items that either don't look right or appear to have been previously worked on. This way you have a point of reference as to what to address first.

There appear to be several shops in your area.

Ok cool thank you guys so much. I have already brought it to my local mechanic and I had them do a once over of the whole car and he said it was in really good shape for being as old as it is and I really trust him because he has helped my family before I was born which makes feel feel good. he said he isn't the best frame guy and told me to go to a wheel shop which I'm planning on doing in the spring I have gone over the whole thing myself even though I'm not anywhere close to a mechanic but everything is really good. Once again I really apricate your guys help and I'm probably going to be asking a lot more questions in the future.

I’d try not to wait on the frame. Better to get after it and find someone that can look. Awesome you have a mechanic you can trust, but over time it’s certainly worth learning to do as much as possible.

Your age I had to have my brother tell me everything to do, AND usually act like I was an idiot, ha. Now between here and Youtube I’ve been able to do just about anything I’ve run across.

ya I've been learning a lot. I've done everything my self to the jeep. I also just found a really good place to go have my frame done. Charles suggested a good place called Zeus off-road and I looked them up they specialize in jeeps so I'm going to contact them later today and see what they have to say. ill post some pics of my jeep later when I get a change and ill try to show you guys everything that I have done.

Also I forgot to say but the frame that is affected in only the part arching in the rear the area with the skid plate is on really good condition

Hopefully that's the case, but you have to be really careful. The inside of the frame is sometimes the most concerning. If you have rust somewhere, you have to look everywhere. Inside the frame can be a huge problem, sneaky like that.
