Love a stock TJ. Almost every one I see is modded so I figure I am being different in this way. You really can’t beat Jeep engineering for all around comfort, reliability. Everything is made to work together so why mess that up?
I modified my Jeep quite a bit after buying it new in 2002. Later, I liked the look of a clean slate, bone stock Tj. It has been a long process of undoing a loooong list of modifications and aquiring stock replacement parts but I am back to that point now.
Looking at this picture, I realize I need to change out the grade 8 bolts in the front tow hooks because they stick out like a sore thumb and mess up the OEM look. I used to have those generic 10,000lb tow hooks - nope, not today. Before that was a 3/16” welded bumper with D-rings and winch.

I much prefer the look of a stock truck. I think the vast majority of upgrades look worse. Unfortunately, in stock form this thing is pretty limited. I was out last weekend, and there were small rock outcroppings I couldn't get over by myself that my Lexus would have rolled over without even paying attention, so despite my affinity for how my truck looks now, I will probably do a small lift so I can get a bit bigger tires under it.

The PO of my Rubi installed an oil pan and trans skid when it was stock. They got well used by the deep scratches on them. I have yet to hit them now, driving over large downed trees and other stuff. They really help the Jeep slide over obstacles.

yeah, I guess it has surprised me how small these things are, which at times can make some stuff harder. The stock tires on my Lexus were approximately 31x10.5, and you can put not-to-wide 35s on it without a lift (I have 255/85R16 which are 33x10). The small size of the Jeep is great for some things but can also make them a bit more challenging for other stuff, or at least, more demanding of lifts/bigger tires. It even feels a bit smaller than the FJ40 my brother had.
Anyway, like I said, I love the unassuming look of a stock truck, and I'm not a rock crawler, so I don't need 35's. But really, while some people do the upgrades for the look, many of the upgrades are functional first. (and I wish the tank wasn't where it is. Should put it under the passenger seat like the 40. )
