Arizona Rock Crawler

The AC went out on my truck, so I put the top on the Jeep so I could drive the jeep with AC instead. Start driving the jeep only to find out my jeep isn’t blowing cold now either. I haven’t used it in a year but it was vacuumed and recharged within the last few years. Compressor turns on. AC lines are ice cold but no cold in the cabin. What would be my next step in diagnosis? Would this probably mean the blend door is stuck? Or maybe it’s a bad selector knob? I can’t test whether the temperature selector is working either since I have my heater core bypassed.

Do you hear the blend door firmly thunk back and forth when you move the selector from hot to cold and vs versa? I'm not familiar with 99+ hvac but you may need to turn on the fan or hit an AC button to turn it on.

Can you select and hold different vents?

Check the blend door to see if it is moving. I’m not sure if it’s a cable operated or electric on a 99.

It’s also an electric knob not a slider. I don’t think I hear anything but maybe I’ll turn the fan on low so I can hear better

Fun day today on Highway to hell and LOD. Damn near put the jeep all the way on its side in a boulder garden and still recovered it. Slashed a tire so that sucks but thankful I carry a spare. Sucked a rock into the front wheel well and it sheared off the bleeder nipple as well as knocked the banjo bolt loose so brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily tightened that bolt back up and was good to go. Neither of my hubs will unlock for some reason now on the way home. Very strange that both of them are failing. Never had that happen before. I bungee corded my front driveshaft to the frame for the drive home.

Got any photos from the day?

Nothing yet except for one I took of a rig that fell in the V notch and broke his windshield

And a pretty sunset 😂

Looks like the stub yoke was rubbing on the inner yoke and caused the U joint cap to bust.

Also spun a frame nutsert for the skid and cracked some welds on the skid

All this mess is from quite literally laying the jeep almost entirely on its side on top of a boulder and pivoting around. It was quite a fun maneuver to pull off. I hope someone got vids or a pic.

Here is where the boulder bent my brake line into the nipple and sheared it off

Some more new scratchies

Trying out a glue tread patch on this now spare tire to see if it works

About to dig into the hubs because I need them to unlock before I can drive on the street with this busted u joint. I’m sure I’ll find more damage…

Who still wants to come take a trip to AZ? 🤣

Update on the hubs, putting my spare lockout on fixes the issue. So the problem is in the lockout which was the most likely issue. For some reason the internals in the lockout will not spin when set to free. There’s no visible damage. I guess I’ll have to tear it apart and see

looks like this spline ring twisted in the hub body so it is stuck. I’m assuming that means this hub body is trash now. Can’t believe both sides twisted like that. Luckily I have 2 spares. I just stole the selector off one of the twisted ones to replace the broken selector on my spare that had good internals.
