Yeah he’s saying if you have a 5x5 adapter you can then use any Jeep wheels since you still have 5x4.5 if you take the adapter offAren’t stock TJ/LJ wheels 5 on 4 1/2?

I have load range C size 17" MTR's on orderCouple that with a better assortment of 17" "C" tires and we're good!![]()

Gotcha. Well, never said I was that sharpest knife in the drawer…Remove the adapter
Ko2The MTR 15” is gone and that was my tire of choice. I’ll stick with 15s if someone knows of a comparable rock crawling tire in a 35x12.5x15
I have the same dilemma. My steels were beat to crap, but tires have lots left also. I did pick up a set of cheap aluminum 15" wheels off of CL, a little primer and paint and bought myself some more time to over analyze the problem. I did find the aluminum wheels had even less room for tape weights than the steels did, so I ended up with rim weights. I know I will scrape them off on a rock eventually. 16" brake kit leaves little room to play with. When I need tires I will probably pick up some JK wheels and go 17".My steel wheels are nearing the end of their life. It’s getting extremely difficult to balance them. Especially with the 16” rotors packed inside limiting where I can place stickies. Every wheel is bent now.
My long term solution:
I want beadlocks. I have to balance my tires every couple of wheeling trips and it’s getting ridiculous. I am worried there will be no more 15” wheel tire choices in the future so I may be pushed into 17” wheels. My clever idea is to get some 17” beadlocks in 5x5.5” with lots of backspacing and use an adapter. What this does is give me the freedom to move to the big hub kit in the future if I start breaking my small hubs. This also gives me the freedom to use them for 37s or 40s in the future on bigger axles whether that be in this Jeep or most likely a buggy. I don’t like buying twice.
Short term solution:
I don’t want to buy new tires right now to fit the 17s so I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for some cheap used 15” aluminum wheels that will hopefully balance better. If anyone has a set they would like to get rid of let me
Thats where I am at. The MTR is great for crawling. Its a shame they discontinued the 15, it was a very popular tire. Thankfully my MTRs were bought almost a year ago and have maybe 7500 miles on them. They should last me a few yearsThe MTR 15” is gone and that was my tire of choice. 7.5 million miles, nice!Thats where I am at. The MTR is great for crawling. Its a shame they discontinued the 15, it was a very popular tire. Thankfully my MTRs were bought almost a year ago and have maybe 7500k miles on them. They should last me a few years

Only time it makes remotely sense going 5x5.5 hubs on 1-tons would be if you have super high end beadlocks already. Even still, converting to 5x5.5" hubs aren't necessarily cheap (especially if you want to keep a spare handy). Only advantage of going 5x5.5" would be if you built a D44HP/9" combo to run 37"s.I’ve been considering this as well! I’ve thought about getting some cheap JK wheels and throwing coyote internal beadlocks in there. Too many strategies, I’m getting bogged down in paralysis by analysis lol. 5x5.5 could be used with Dana 60s in the future if I go full retard buggy build which is why I was thinking that way. The problem is I know what I want in the future but I don’t know what I will realistically be able to afford lol.
My new Currie VXR's are 5x5.5 with 5/8" studs. My Trailready beadlocks are 5x5.5 RACE so they fit.Only time it makes remote sense going 5x5.5 hubs on 1-tons would be if you have super high end beadlocks already. If you're gonna start hitting buggy trails, I'd get wheels that buggies run - usually 8x6.5" or 8x170 if you do the SD60 route.
Yeah this would be one of those weird exceptions too, though I doubt Starkey would be ordering $13000 in axles with his love of welding on bracketsMy new Currie VXR's are 5x5.5 with 5/8" studs. My Trailready beadlocks are 5x5.5 RACE so they fit.

Actually I think the matching front and rear set is pushing $17,000 (60/70 combo)...Or my propensity to be too poor for $13k axles![]()
Only problem is a lack of good 5x4.5" options in 17"... If I go tons, 17"s make sense. Until then, I'm #15tillIdie lolThis is great advice thanks!
I suppose the only other advantage would be to do 5x5.5 hubs in the future on my current setup Dana 30 if the 5x4.5 start breaking. But at that point I’d rather just make a decision and get the hubs with the wheels so no spacers are necessary and can get the right backspace.
Honestly the most universal thing to do sounds like coyote internal beadlocks and cheap 17” 5x4.5 wheels. Then I can transfer them to any 17” wheel in the future and the wheels are disposable. I just remembered a friend of mine has a shop with a tire machine I could use.
Brackets still need welded on and I’d have been very happy at 13kYeah this would be one of those weird exceptions too, though I doubt Starkey would be ordering $13000 in axles with his love of welding on brackets![]()
Curious - why you go with those vs. building your own??Brackets still need welded on and I’d have been very happy at 13k
