Still trying to get used to my Atlas 2-speed TC. I have a question about the shifters and how they behave.
First, to save looking at the profile... 2000 TJ, 4.0 I6, 32RH Auto, Atlas 2-speed 5:1 (700 miles, first gear oil change completed, mechanical shift connection)
Recently had the all-thread vibrate loose on the front shifter. My solution was to re-thread the connection and add a little blue loctite to prevent a repeat. Since, I am experiencing what I can only describe as a "bind" in the shifters.
With the engine off and the transmission in Park or Neutral, I can shift through all of the options (2H, 4H, 2L front, 2L rear, 4L) like butter. Once I start the engine and try to replicate this easy shifting I run into a bind, regardless of transmission position. I can shift from 2H rear to 4H and back without issue. If I shift the rear into low, I have a very hard time shifting back to high, or even neutral, without turning the engine off. Once the engine is off, it is again like butter. I read that shifting into and out of low gear should be done at 2-3 mph without a load. This does not change the bind and I still have a hard time getting back to high gear. I can always get back to neutral, though it takes much more pressure on the shifter then normal, on both axles, just not rear high without turning off the engine (yes, the front is in neutral at this point).
I understand that an auto puts some load on the TC which may contribute to my issue.
Questions are: Is there an adjustment that I need to make to improve the shift quality, is this normal, could this be a function of the break in process and I just need to be patient? Is there something I have missed? I do not remember having this issue prior to the front all thread coming loose and me re-attaching it.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
