Hey guys new to the thread here. My auto trans finally shot after years of abuse from my grandpa. I bought it when he passed and the motor and trans are both needing a rebuild. A friend of my dads that owns a shop offered me a motor and trans from a 2004 he had at no charge. 80k miles on both they’re still mounted together. My question is what all will i need to change for the manual to work being the motor and trans he has given me is manual. Motor still has wiring harness with it and all that. I’ve got the clutch pedal assembly and a new slave cylinder with lines and all that ready. I’ve read I will have to get a new front drive shaft and a manual starter but was wondering electrical wise if I’ll need to change anything. Any help at all would be awesome.

I'd rebuild that 32RH or find a good used 32RH replacement. And what is it doing? Have you verified its ATF level is up where it needs to be to work properly?

Check its level first exactly as described here... Set the parking brake then start the engine. Shift into Neutral and leave the engine running. Check the ATF level using the transmission's dipstick located on the passenger side, it comes into the engine compartment from below the firewall. With the engine RUNNING and the transmission is in NEUTRAL, make sure the ATF is all the way up to the hot-full mark. If it's not, add enough ATF+4 to bring it up to that full mark. 'Tis better that it be slightly overfilled than slightly underfilled.

And if the ATF doesn't say "ATF+4" in big letters on the front of the bottle, it's the wrong type of ATF.

Your 32RH is one of the best transmissions the Wrangler ever received, especially for offroading. I'd do what it takes to continue running one. I even converted my previous TJ from its original AX-15 5-speed manual transmission to run the 32RH. It's a great transmission, so good Ford even tried to buy the rights to manufacture it for their vehicles but Chrysler wanted too much $$$ for them.

So we tested the cable and it would short but not stall the engine; we fixed it anyways, but it was not the issue. While looking at the other things we noticed that the automatic shutdown relay looked a little... off. We pulled it while it was running and it stalled in the same way that my brother described. Ended up swapping it for the hopefully-good horn relay and drove just fine after that.

I hope that is the end of the problem! lol

Posted in the wrong thread lol, but yeah I would say to try and rebuild the 32RH instead of the swap. Love mine and my brother's AX15 is a little...off?
