Have any of y'all used these and your thoughts. It seems it would be nice for live data while driving and quite affordable.

This is what I use as does my buddy who likewise owns a TJ: OBDLink MX+ Has its own customizable device display and also compatible with 3rd party software, as well as all iOS and Android devices. I goofed majorly one day by leaving it on the TJ hood during a brief test drive. Gone forever, so I immediately ordered same model replacement (which I'm much more careful where placed!).

anybody know of one that reads transmission codes and isn't too expensive? doesn't have to be bluetooth
There are too many to pick from and it seems the transmission code function turns the price way up - I have a cheap simple one from amazon but it doesn't read transmission codes - thanks
I use a paid version of the Torque app and this OBDII bluetooth dongle. I'm on my fourth different brand now, this one seems to be holding up the best and has no connection issues/drops (so far).
Tell me more
My 97 only has 19 PIDs. Most of the early TJs are really basic. I have a much nicer scanner but it's functionaly equivalent to the cheap ODB reader because that's all the PCM can do.
The 32RH transmission is hydraulic controlled...no TCM.

Your 2001 isn't going to throw any transmission codes other than a couple codes related to the torque converter clutch. If you want a fancy reader for your other cars, great. But don't buy one for your TJ. Most any basic reader will show you everything your TJ can tell you.
