98 TJ 4.0 Experiencing what seems to be vapor lock off road, slow speeds, hot afternoons. I am going to install injector, f-rail & manifold insulation. But I was reading that ethanol fuel vs non eth can contribute a lot to v-lock even on injection engines. Opinions?

If so, it would be the first time I’ve ever heard of it. We have been running ethanol fuel in our vehicles forever without any issues. Now if we are talking about carbs and power equipment, that might be another story.

Ethanol fuel can cause many different issues, I haven't had an issue with my 99 4.0.
However I have seen multiple Ford E-350 motorhomes with port injected 460s vapor lock on hot days
My 71 C-10 will vapor lock in traffic with ethanol fuel, ( 750 cfm AFB , 350 ).
NO issues with alcohol free gas!!!

BTW Welcome to the Forum!

I started having issues on my '99 when I was at high altitude (7k'+). I ran fine, but if I shut it off for a snack stop or photo op I couldn't restart it for 30-40 mins. I installed an insulation kit & so far so good. I haven't ever used ethanol-free gas in my TJ, so I can't speak to that.

A buddy of mine has similar issue. Runs great. But re-start after shutting off for a short while can occasionally gives him issues. My issue is when running...slow, on trails, hot afternoons, it will suddenly putt putt putt, sputter and die. Open hood, wait 10 mins. Fires back up. Repeat every 30-45 mins rest of day. A royal PIA. I am installing injector insulation kit, but was wondering if eth fuel is contributing.

If you can get Non ethanol gas somewhere and duplicate your wheelin, there's your answer.
The insulation can't hurt either way.
Issues like this can be a pain.

Thx. That was gonna be my 1st try. I have a fuel cell, so it’s easy to syphon out and replace with no-eth. If works, great. If not, insulate is next. Thx
