Car pics too cool not to share

Just a couple of cool engines.

Both local cars.

Apparently, the State of Alabama was having budget issues in 1971 and could no longer continue to afford to buy their fleet orders from Ford like they had done in the 1960s. American Motors Corporation was having financial problems of their own and needed every sale they could find to stay above water.
The orders called for base model Javelins with the 401/330hp engine and automatic transmissions with highway-friendly 2.87:1 rear gears. They also came with air-conditioning, power front disc brakes and heavy duty suspension.
There were 71 Javelins ordered in 1971. Of those 71, 10 were painted an assortment of Midnight Blue, Limelight Green, Baja Bronze, Burnish Brown or Meadow Green. The other 61 were painted Quick Silver Metallic. The fleet deal dropped the price of each Javelin from about $3,900 to $3,047.34.
The Javelins were fast too! One trooper said the only car that they came across that they couldn’t run down was a 366hp 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge that ended up crashing into a ditch during the 100+mph 15 minute chase!

I see a 409 400hp (chrome valve covers), power steering and brakes, and A/C. If that's how that car left the factory, and it looks right, that wasn't a cheap car when new, and it's a rare one today. I'd bet there were less than 100 409 wagons made in '65, and probably fewer than 10 with those options.

Got this from a FB group.

Adam Bateman's Tudor is STILL held in high esteem around here! Just about as perfect as a flathead car can or will get. These pictures crossed my memories feed today, but the written words were date specific. I couldn't let them pass just because of that.
Pictures are Adam's, and from the car's debute at the 2012 GSTA show in St. Paul.

Could do without the tufted top, but otherwise, it's awesome! That's a "take the wife to dinner" car, if ever there was one.
