In the early 1960s, drag racing became a popular sport in America, prompting major automotive manufacturers to see it as a marketing opportunity. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) responded by introducing new classes to distinguish between mass-produced Super Stocks and specially equipped cars with larger engines in lighter bodies. This led to the creation of the A/FX class, standing for "Factory Experimental," allowing manufacturers to test engine and body combinations before mass production. One notable car from this era was Ford's Thunderbolt, which featured a 427ci big block FE motor from a 1963 Galaxie in a lighter Fairlane body. This experimental vehicle set the NHRA A/FX speed record at 121.29 MPH.

Enthusiast Tony Peake recreated a tribute to this experimental Fairlane, building it as if it were constructed in 1963. He purchased a partially built 1963 Fairlane in Western Australia and transformed it into a street/strip machine with a stroked 460ci big block engine, now at 570ci producing 800 HP. The car features modern upgrades like a Pro System SV1 carburetor, a two-speed Powerglide transmission, and various performance enhancements while retaining a vintage appearance. Peake's Fairlane pays homage to early drag racing history, combining period-correct aesthetics with contemporary engineering, creating a unique blend of nostalgia and modern performance.

Imagine actually driving that anywhere in one of the liberal areas of the country. You'd probably get taken out by a SWAT team. :(
