Carpets: should I rip 'em out?

The BedRug/BedTred stuff is on my list and everyone loves it. It's synthetic and doesn't get moldy or stain or anything. It's on my shortlist of comfort mods.

Personally I didn't care for carpet for a long time: took it right out in my first three Jeeps. However it was always annoying because the mats slip around too much with nothing to grab on to. Best bet is to remove any of the nubs you mention and then adhere some sort of rubberized material to the underside of them lest they just slide all around.

Personally I recommend Husky's mats, I just like the simple look. Can't go wrong with WeatherTech either, they're well liked. Then there's the tread-like ones that a lot of Jeep product companies sell (Smittybuilt, Rugged Ridge, Quadratec, etc.) I had them in my JK and didn't personally care for them. Sometimes the heel of my boot would get stuck in the tread when I would go to release the clutch and it was very annoying (I got used to it). They were very inexpensive though, so probably best bang for your buck. They were difficult to get completely clean though given all the nooks and crannies, if you care about that sort of thing, but a long bristled brush and some dish soap would take care of 90% of the dirt.

I've tried it both ways. There is something nice about the bare floor. Just spray it down when it's dirty. The down sound for me wasn't noise or heat, it's the rattling of loose change and other objects pinging around in the tub. I put the carpet back in just to protect the finish.

Mine were removed years ago (in 2000) and I honestly haven’t missed them because it is so much easier to clean. To overcome the road noise I have a decent stereo and good speakers (my dog is deaf so he doesn’t mind), to overcome the heat through the foot wells I just cut up some Home Depot anti fatigue mats that I was going to trash (Amazon has them too). I was going to put some Velcro tape or spray glue to hold them in place but it hasn’t been a problem yet, even with my wife trying to use the brake pedal on the passenger side. They are 3/4” thick so my bare foot passenger won’t burn her feet when she’s not putting them on the dash.

Can't go wrong with Bedrug. Worth every penny, easy to install, and easy to clean. Doesn't smell when wet/sorry like carpet either. Looks awesome too

How does this stuff manage against water?
