CB Antenna Help

I would not recommend running a 102" whip. They can whip around quite a bit on the trail and hit spotters next to your vehicle. I run a fiberglass 5' or 4' or a Wilson 5000 on my Jeep. The Wilson 5000 gets the best SWR's pretty much flat across the band.

Thank you for this - a 5 footer would be my next choice.

I wouldn't even run one that tall. In fact many offroad events and clubs have even banned antennas longer than around 48" for safety reasons.

Even my FS-2 2' Firestik antenna gets out very well. Not to mention it never has to be removed to clear anything.

Hmmm. Interesting. I'm a computer geek, not an RF guy, but I've been messing with CBs since back in the days where everyone had an FCC issued call sign - so my instinct is to run the biggest damn antenna I can!

With that said, I imagine taking out one's fellow Jeepers is considered poor form by most reputable organizations!

While we're on the subject of loction - I'm thinking of a ball mount on the driver's side in a location similar to the stock AM/FM antenna. Good idea? Bad?

Might depend on where you wheel. Around here, anything mounted on the side gets hit eventually (trying to go around trees on off camber hills).
Check out what other wheelers in your area are using.

I figure that's what the spring is for, plus I'll run a short antenna on the trail.
