CJ style tailgate that folds out, not down

Depending on how much attention and care you have for quality, it can be done and it can look really good. I’m guessing you’re after the, “Jeep,” stamp and the indentation it sits in, which is borrowed from the CJ tailgate...

I would suggest some junk yard tailgates that are in good shape and worth,”restoring,” then find someone who's done custom body (metal) work like a hot rod shop.

I can likely get you in contact with whoever did the Blue and Orange tailgate in a few months or so.

You hit the nail on the head. If you happen to know who did that tailgate, I would love to get their contact info and chat with them about it.

The orange one is pretty slick. Of those 4, the raised profile on the orange one looks the best to me.

To each their own, though... It's a lot of work for something that doesn't add functionality. I definitely prefer the drop-down CJ tailgate, and if I'm going to make a change, that'll be the direction I go again. I loved having the flexibility it provided on my last LJ, as a bench, table or allowing me to haul 8' lumber without needing to hook up a trailer.

I've read too many complaints about the drop down tailgate. Heck, even @Garza himself had something to say about not liking the drop down tailgate.

It is a function thing. Some folks will put up with a whole bunch of inconvenience for a few moments of convenience. The rest of us don't like to be annoyed by having to reach over and around the lowered gate for normal access into the cargo area.

@Chris the guy who did the blue and orange tailgate is traveling out of country for work. But next year he may be open to doing this for you.

We all know you are not going to wait a year, I suggest a nice hot rod shop that has work they have done that you can see in person to gauge their workmanship/quality of work. Bring them a CJ tailgate, a TJ tailgate, and photos of what you want to do. Im certain they will do it for you.

Yep, that’s looking like what I will do. I am sure here in Phoenix I can find a good hot rod shop that can handle something like this.
