Console lid fix?

You can see in the photo. The upper two screw holes are badly stripped and hollowed out. To a much larger diameter than the original screws. I replaced them with the ones you see. But even those over a short time became stripped too. And have pulled out. (Ignore the dirt. I obviously have not cleaned under the console lid!)

Anyone have any creative ways of fixing this so it will last?

I don't want to do larger screws as it will just widen the holes again. I'm wondering if larger screws and some sort of glue or epoxy might hold it? Would look like a shitty job most likely though. lol. IDK. I really don't want to research fiberglass and fix it with that. I need another project like a hole in the head. Anyway if any of you have fixed this before or thought of some creative way. Cool. Thanks in advance.

It's a poor design. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's had this problem.

(On a side note. Someone got into my Jeep last night and left it open like that. I don't recall the screws being quite that bad either. But is disorienting to find that someone had been in my vehicle.)

New bigger screws, ROUND HEAD, maybe acorn thread, or Type A..or... but not countersunk deck screws.... plus a line of PL400. if you use PL400 you'll never remove the lid again.

Pack the area in and behind the screw holes with epoxy. Pack a big syringe with freshly mixed epoxy and inject it through the screw holes so it fills the void inside. Thread the screws in once it has started to cure.

Plastic welding is a viable option too. It's not hard to do, and you can pick up relatively inexpensive kits online and at hardware stores.

Will this work just as well? Or does it need be "400"? It sounds outstanding from the description. Also is this better than epoxy?

I hear you about the screw heads. It's all I had in my extra hardware tub. I'll go to my local ace and get bigger ones with a flat head. I'll have to drill out the hole on the bracket.

Might want to try and source that missing rubber bumper too if you're going to go through the trouble of fixing this right while you're at it. Without it and putting arm weight on it, opening/closing it you'll put stress on the hinge screws over time and may run into the same issue.

I just re-did my interior and had my entire console apart. Couldn't find those hinge screws because I had them in a small baggie and they fell in my toolbox where my sockets are. Drove me nuts looking and I too didn't want to use anything other than the stock ones. Also, that lid is a separate piece from the outer cover. Worse case you might look for one of those or contact davysjeeps for a replacement.

I cut my full console in half and added a ammo can for its replacement. I have the lid just sitting in my garage. It does have a cover on it that resembles a tire tread pattern. the lock and catch do not work. You would need to swap yours out. if you are interested in it....

My only catch is you have to take it for free‼

After you fix it (plastic epoxy is what I've used), you could put on a limiting strap/cord.
