Old radiator is out (gross!) and I have a couple quick questions as set the new one back up.

1) Should I be concerned about air in the transmission cooling lines to/from the new radiator? I lost a bit of fluid when I pulled them but nothing that I can't top off with the little bit of MOPAR ATF 4 I have on hand. Don't know anything about burping trans cooling system nor have I seen anything about it.

2) I saved all the coolant I drained from the old radiator since I literally just did the rest of the system last weekend and will just dump it in and fill the new radiator. Just so I'm clear, pour first gallon premixed into radiator. Start Jeep, and add second gallon leftover mix a bit at a time. At this point, I would presumably have the front end already jacked up to burp it, right?

3) Should I wait to top off trans with ATF 4 until after I've burped the cooling system? Can't see why it'd be a big deal to do it same time but anything with the trans always has me nervous :)

4) Anything else I should be aware of? As far as I can tell, put the radiator back in and bolt it up, reattach upper/lower rad hoses, in/out auto trans coolant lines, begin filling and basically follow same process as when I replaced water pump etc...

You don't have to worry about the transmission. Just make sure it's filled correctly before you drive it. You probably didn't loose much fluid, it just seems like allot. It's basically just a return line so air is no issue at all.

Also that foam padding that fell apart when I removed the old on the top there, not sure if that needs replacing yet...

thanks yeah I actually read your post in another thread and collected the ATF in a small rubbermaid container to see how much I actually lost. Very small amount like you said. Mostly just concerned about air once I reattach but we'll see.

Well it doesn't fucking matter now I guess - the radiator I purchased from Oreilly's that they swore was drop in has different fittings than my A/C and auto trans lines, looks like theirs came with quick disconnect ports with those clips and my lines aren't compatible.

I couldn't find any adapters and they basically told me I could return it and get a different one that is cheaper and appears to have the correct fittings - an option they neglected to mention when I picked it up.

If anyone has any suggestions, this is one I haven't encountered before and I'm about ready to pull the unit out and take it back.

You can I get a adapter that will plug into that new radiator port that allows you to slide the hole over it like a barbed fitting and up just put a hose clamp on it.

Give me just a minute and I’ll find what it is for you.

I'd cry ha. I found Dorman 800-605 but that seems to solve the opposite problem (i.e. goes into the original port to convert to a quick clip disconnect style fitting)

You have to remove all the fittings on the hose end,so that you just have a bare hose.

The tube goes in the radiator fitting and the spring clip thing holds it In the fitting.

Ok, so remove the end piece that is currently in both hoses, insert the one you and/or Tom linked into each hose, and then just pop it in the quick disco port on the radiator? Thank you guys for the suggestions, this is a new one for me. I'll give it a shot.

Ended up swapping the radiator I was given with another that had much more similar ports for the hose connections. They still didn't fit but this one came with new adapters so we cut the old hoses and inserted the new fittings which look quite a bit like the ones you two described. It's all connected now and I'll be filling it shortly. Thanks again all for the help
