Currie front control arm skid thickness?

Has anybody checked their axle straightness after installing these? That's been my biggest concern about it, is pulling some arch into the tubes after getting enough heat into them to join the 3/16 plate to the tube, and then not being able to straighten it back since the other brackets would preclude welding a similar bead diametrically opposed to the original. I dealt with the weld shrinkage fiasco when I welded a receiver tube into my rear bumper and now I consider that potential in every project.

I worried about it, till I didn't.
 
It’s about a 2.5 inch bead at opposite ends of the axle. It would be hard to put enough heat in the axle to distort it. I’m not saying you can’t but it’s unlikely.

Plus, it’s worse to leave the mount exposed to incur damage. These are short welding passes literally in just one place across the tube/side. The skids were my first welding project on the Jeep. It’s upside down, so it’s more difficult than my other two welding projects. I didn’t understand it all, but that first project is still holding strong, and the skids are beat to hell.

I wound up using 3/16" to make them. 4 pieces welded into the shape of the 4 planes on the bent currie skids. My axle brackets were kinda smooshed so there was plenty of ugly fill weld in the gaps. Definitely not my best work,more like its getting dark and cold so i better slam this out,lol

Sorry no close ups! 😂 i started with these measurements but cut down the triangles to be 7/8 total width.could go longer and have less fill on the sides. Cardboard makes for nice mockup material

Also cut down the front edge fill plate width by a half inch to miss the stock bracket edges.

Thankfully i have a spare Dana 30 to use for mock up
