Dana 35 ring and pinion set up

Hey. So on my 2000 wrangler se i re geared to 4.88 on May of 2020. My ring gear in the rear axel, a Dana 35, just broke 2 teeth so I’m currently trying to fix that problem. I warranted the parts and have them but I was going to do the labor myself. Since I’m not messing with bearings and just replacing the ring and pinion with the same ones. Do I need to adjust the shims on either or should I be okay just to leave them as is. I’ll still check my backlash and wear pattern but to start off with should I be okay with leaving everything as is just replacing the gears and putting it back in? Thank you!

I think you have to do a complete setup. The new pinion wont sit in the same spot as the old one so you are pretty much at square one with respect to setting up the gears.

Start with the old shims but you still want to make sure it’s set up right before you send it.

What lou said start with the shims that were used in the housing and setup bearings. Go off of that and adjust by the pattern and make sure you have all your specs in check and whatever you do dont misplace them and put them on the wrong side or mix them up then youll be in for more work. Things need to be perfect so make your time worth it and your money as well because you dont want to do it again. Oh and dont forget the pinion washer if you have a crush sleeve. Seems like something that wouldnt happen but ask me how i know after doing a dana 30.

If only you were that lucky! As stated, start with the old set up, but it's doubtful it will all be good without some additional shim work. Who made the ring gear you are replacing? And do you have an idea as to what caused it?
