Door Seals: Aftermarket vs OE

I ordered Crown full door seals months ago and realized last wknd they were for a different model Jeep.. #($*$&!!! I had already yanked out the passenger side but was able to reinstall it.

Been reading more on these and getting a lot of folks saying to go OEM and not aftermarket. Anyone use aftermarket seals without any problems? They're less than half the price as OEM but i'm real hesitant to go cheap on something that will keep the water out.

To be honest with you I'm not even sure you can get OE seals anymore, can you?

If so, I'd always choose OE over Crown. Most of the Crown stuff is just "okay" quality, but I've found that a lot of it fits poorly (i.e. fender flares). I suspect the seals are the same way as well.

Ya found a place that has them but maybe it's the 4th of July holiday.. they sure are slow to get back to me and i'm just getting impatient.

I've found a lot of places are super slow responding to emails, which is why I always pick up the phone and call. That usually gets them right away.

Well when i do things like this online I still come across as working hard here at my desk. As soon as I pick up the phone and get all loud, my cover is blown.. Guess i'll give them a call when I get home today.

Some folks do this with their Dodge truck door seals . . . . it works well, and cuts down wind noise too.
Buy a long length of rubber hose . . . lube it up with rubber lubricant/equivalent, and feed it through the hollow door seal. Have the 'join' at the bottom of the door. Cut the hose about 1 1/2" too long, and force the extra length into the door seal. Do not buy hose that is close to the diameter of the door seal. Get it somewhat smaller.

I used these when I repainted my Lj over the winter. I couldn’t fine OEM. I was happy with the fit, they are tight when the door closed for the first few months. Leaving the doors closed and keeping the Jeep parked in the sun helps speed up the process of them settling in.

My father had his '61 Mercury convertible completely redone. They (the shop) swear by "Steele" products for all their work. New door, trunk, hood, top, everything. He says if they dont make it they figure a way to do it. And made in America!

Bought Crown for my half doors, they did not fit properly. I returned them and got Mopar which fit perfectly. Full doors may be a different story, but make sure they have a favorable return policy.

I was about to mention those. If they aren't from the OEM manufacturer, they are darn close.
