Factory carpet question: TJ vs. LJ

Thinking about it, I'll bet the LJ got the heavy sound insulation in the cargo area because it's 15" longer, so it likely vibrates differently, and during development of the LJ, they noticed a sound level that was too high.

Certainly possible, thought that wouldn't necessarily explain the firewall insulation. I also have an under hood insulation pad from the factory. Regardless of the reason(s), kind of glad I have it and i'm thinking I should keep it.

This all has origins in me deciding to do a rear console-ectomy on my LJ. I've already got the mini console cupholder terminator as well as new Mopar rubber parking brake boot on the way from Fleabay. But as mine came factory with an empty rear console, it didn't get carpet underneath.

Based on replies here (thank you again, everyone), I'm gathering/guessing the front carpets aren't so different regarding any insulation from LJ to TJ, save maybe a few thin white-ish pieces seen in @sab's photo above. That being the case, I think I might just go for replacement front carpets for a TJ without the console and keep my existing rear carpet. I caught this older thread here, talks about Bedrug and ACC carpets from RockAuto. I think the ACC Essex might be a winner...

If you replaced it last month and it's already torn again, I think you've got some other issues to sort out
I took his two posts to mean that it was torn, causing his leg to get warm, then he replaced it, and that solved the problem.

...and I'm not sure what they might be.
The manual shift lever moves, relative to the body, which is what that cover attaches to, when you add a body lift, a motor mount lift, or raise or lower the transmission mounting point vertically, relative to body. Doing so without regards to where the manual shift lever ends up can result in that rubber getting seriously stressed during shifting, resulting in tears. Judging from all the torn ones on eBay for $100+, I don't think many TJ owners think about that relationship.

I'll have to reread.

That may well be. I'm stock so that wasn't the issue with mine, just 19 years of movement through hot and cold. I didn't realize people were actually selling torn boots...I shouldn't be surprised, though...
