I emailed MC yesterday to confirm that the lights were identical except for the housing. Reply was "yes, they are".

Again, It’s not amber. It’s red. It just looks amber in pics/videos. They are marketed for the US Jeeps. Amber is not legal here for a brake light. The brake light and turn signal are shared. It would be a big wiring job for every US customer if metalcloak were shipping an amber light because you’d have to change up the whole turn signal switch function to split the brake from the turn signals. They look to be using the same all-red lens that savvy uses.

Ah, ok, missed your previous post. Pictures and Youtube do make it look amber for sure. But if it is not legal in the US then sure it is just a trick of the light.

Pretty close to a free mod. Would likely replace OEM bulbs with LED. Now to grow a pair to cut holes in a low mile TJUR.
If you do decide to flush mount the stock lights, be sure to fit the side with the tailgate hinges first to ensure hinge clearance.
I did the non-hinge side first and got extremely lucky that the other side cleared the hinges.

I did this mod to my 03 as well back in the early 2000s. Only issue was the emissions junk in the passenger rear corner.
Hmmm. Never thought of the emission parts, mine was a TJ Unlimited so probably had a bit more space to work with.
What kind a can rack do you have?Going this route in "molded" (plastic) for $118 including relay instead of billet @ $258. Same guts.

Speaking of the gas cans:
Got the steel cans from Harbor Freight. Went to fill for the first time and they have a wonderfully funky plastic 'filter' inserted in the can. It won't simply pull out so will have to cut it out. Interferes with filling at all but the slowest, by hand, speed at the pump. And, it will disallow the use of my new shaker gravity hose. No big deal, just inconvenient for now.
Grabbed 25 gal for my Honda generators.. you know why..

Even the driver's side needed a shallower tail light and I'll have to make a stop on the bumper stop to stop the 'gate' sooner to gain about 1/8" clearance on the new light housing. Rock Hard thought it would fit DS with OEM tail lights, no way. It's all about how close the Currie tire carrier is to the tub.
Passenger side is a no-go with a can rack on the Currie. Can will hit quarter armor before the gate is open enough to open the rear glass. Sure don't want to take the can off every time I need access to the rear. Would work ok topless I suppose... hmm. Probably the only time I'll be on a trail where I might need more than 5gal. extra fuel would be topless summer. Empty rack should be ok. So I'll ponder that.
Considered a spacer on the spare but that won't change the pivot point or can interference.

Not so much. If you do the round taillight conversion you can get the lights from any Truck Stop for about $14. And they are flush mount.
You absolutely can but then you have taillights that look like you paid 14 dollars for them at some truck stop.
