I posted earlier about a clicking noise in my front end and I think I narrowed down the cause, being the front axle U-joints being the culprit With me not being mechanically inclined I called my nearest 4WD parts store for an estimate to replace the two front axle U-joints and was quoted $250 a side, plus the cost of the U-joint. I don’t know a lot about this but that sounds extremely high, am I correct in thinking that is very high? Like I said I’m very mechanically uninclined so any verification that estimate is high would be appreciated.

It is high. For 250 per side they should be doing ball joints and ujoints. Better confirm their price on the ujoint too, I would not pay more than $30 for them.
By the way, what kind of U-joints do y’all recommend? When I had the front and rear driveshaft U-Joints replaced I had them install Spicer ones, are they the best kind for axle U-Joints as well?
Whoever replaces your u-joints, demand that they use the Spicer 5-760x. That is the upgraded direct replacement for your present u-joint. Spicer designed the stronger and more durable 5-760x for the TJ Rubicon at Jeep's request. It's the same size and a direct replacement for the older less durable 5-297 u-joint the factory installed.
Thank you for the response, I’d like to ask you Mr. Bransford as the resident Jeep guru is the price of around the $450 mark that I’ve been quoted at 2 places is that high? I have seen YouTube videos that show it being done and to my extremely limited knowledge it seems like it’s not very difficult to do. I’m just wondering if that price is high? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have them do the wheel bearing/hub assembly too while they have it apart. It will save you the labor when they go bad.

That seems extraordinarily high though I don't know what shops get for such work since I've never paid anyone to do that job. @mrblaine would know how many hours that job would require with an experienced Jeep guy.
You can get both sides apart in 10-20 minutes each side if you don't have any problems, no stuck rotor, no stuck unit bearing, etc. 30-40 minutes for both u-joints out and in. A bit longer back together. 2-2/12 hour job on the high side with no issues. One little issue will skew that with a quickness.
