Or a week long wait for Rock Auto, Amazon or Summit. I got surprised the other day when I ordered oil from Walmart and they delivered it the same day.

I hear ya - that's why I ask so many dumb-ass questions of those who have done that particular job before. Plus first time jitters - installing the outer pinion race this AM was a HELL of a lot easier because I wasn't a virgin at it any more. Once ya figure out how the job "wants" to be done, vs. the way you think it should be done; life's a lot easier.
Ok, @macleanflood and anyone else knowledgeable:
The pinion is back together. The nut is tightened a thin BCH past where it was before - BUT - the measurement from the top of the shaft to the top of the nut is less than it was previously - .147-ish vs .163 before. The yoke is slightly on the stiff side as well - maybe I need to go get an inch-pound beam wrench and measure it to be sure?
In any event, that's it for today, gotta go to yoga in an hour.

I always did it by "feel" before and after . This was on a bunch of GM class A motor home P- series chassis. That said , I never had an issue and we covered a warranty on the work. One of my favorite sayings is , " There's a right way to do the wrong thing " .
Yes, you can tell by the feel and the sound. Then I groped around behind the races with a fingernail - couldn't find anything wrong, but I'm no expert which is why I'm asking the dumb questions.
Yup, the sound and "feel" tell the story . I bet you got it just fine . I can't wait for you to get this together and find somewhere to test out the lunchbox locker and report in !
You and me both. It certainly is taking awhile - which I expected - but I'm still getting tired of looking at this thing - I have a shit ton of electrical stuff to do to it after I get it back on the road.
Sorry, long day at work. With a crush sleeve, you're pretty much at the mercy of where it needs to be. I don't personally like the "mark the pinion" method because you can see resistance go way up with less than an 1/8 of a turn. If you think it's tight now, you can't make it looser to fix it without a new crush sleeve.
See if you can get a beam style in/lbs torque wrench and see what it's at.

Just ordered one, should be here tomorrow. Push come to shove, I'll get to learn how to install and setup a crush sleeve! HA!

I forgot to say the wrench above is 1/4” drive and the socket for my pinion nut is 1/2” drive so it took some adapters to make it work.
Yep - had to order a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter, can get to 1/2" from there.
EDIT: Shit! No I don't - mine's the opposite. Back to Amazon I go...

Yea, that's what I bought. Its available with 15 different names stamped on the tool. As for the adapter, I just went back to Amazon and added it to my order, which will be here tomorrow. Didn't even have to get in the car and drive down to Hazard Fraught!
