Future engine swap for my 98 TJ?

Just do what I did, buy the Scat stroker kit and turn it into a 4.7:

I figure this should be good for maybe an extra 40-50 hp.

I won't be installing it for a while, but I ordered one in the meantime.

Doesn't require boring your block either, but you will be forced to run premium fuel. I read nothing but good things about it.
What happened to less is more? I mean, cool and all, but sheesh

Bookmarked! er ah added to wishlist!

Ok so let me thread jack a bit if I may. It is on topic though I think. I have a 4cyl manual 99’ with standard 3.73(?) gearing. It has a 4” lift and 33’s.....would changing the gearing help me...and if so to what?

It sure would! I have a 2000 TJ with 4.0 with the 5 speed. I went with the 4.56 gears and it made all the difference in the world. With you having the 4 cyl not sure if you should go with the same gears or something a little different (lower).

So...I looked at the link...not sure if you linked the wrong one, but you do have to bore the block 0.030 over. They must be really pitchip the C.R. to get 4.7L out of only a 30 over bore

5.13 and at least alloy 27 spline shafts in the back. You might get away with 4.88's and new stock axle shafts on the street. The 2.5 needs all the gear you can give it, and responds well.

Edited to add; You have 4.10/4.11 gears in your '99 currently.

I linked to the wrong one, oops!

Here is the correct one:
https://www.extremeterrain.com/scat-stroker-40l-96-1-1-96015bi.html

As you can see, it says "no boring required".

What's the torque curve look like, before and after, on that kit? It would seem that it might move peak torque down some, which is good for a TJ off road. The premium fuel requirement would bug me some, but is livable, I guess.

I'm not entirely sure if it requires premium, but that's my guess. I haven't seen the torque curve, but I've read nothing but good things about it.

They make two kits, one has a 9.6:1 compression, and one has a 10 to something compression. I ordered the 9 compression, so maybe that one can make due on regular gasoline... not entirely sure.

5.13's are what you want. And yes, it will make a significant difference. I didn't like mine with 31's and 3.73, and I have the 6spd which has lower gearing and the 2.4 which has a bit more hp & tq. I run 4.88's now with 31's.

9.5:1 is the average for pump gas...you go higher, and you are in to racing gas.

So 9.6:1 should be fine for running non-premium, yeah?
9.6 I think crosses over into the maybe Department. I said pump gas...which premium qualifies for. For regular, I think you want to keep your CR around 8.7.

Also, that kit only comes with a rotating assembly...what are you doing for fuel injectors? Cooling? Not to mention internal engine clearance...

You should do some reading on jeepstrokers.com

115k is just getting broke in you take care of it. It’ll run well into 200’s. Do the gears and you’ll get some power back too

Yeah, I did a bunch of reading on that site. I am planning on running the larger injectors that they recommend. As far as cooling goes, I’ll look into that. This isn’t happening for at least a year, I just ordered the kit to have around in the meantime.

In that time, I plan on gathering all the other parts and info I need.
