I used that 2k spray can stuff before as a primer and it worked good. Interesting on using that as a clear.
I did the windshield frame and cowl this morning. Picked up 7 more cans of paint too. I'm half way through #3.

Well, as usual, two steps forward, one step backward.
Got most of the outside painted except the grille. The fenders came out really good. I used three lighter coats instead of a couple big heavy coats.
I painted the grill and used my spray gun to try and save some time and get a better finish. Thinned the Rustoleum with xylol because that's what I had around. It came out pretty good. Didn't do much prep so it probably won't last but I'm out of patience with this project.
Then I tried underneath the hood. Did not go well. Tons of orange peel. Almost looks like bedliner. Probably because I was painting over orange peel. ha. Also, I was painting in the sun which happened last time on the underside of the hood when I did the silver and cause the orange peel in the first place. Can't see how it lays out in the bright direct sunlight. Think I got some striping too even with white because of the sunlight situation. May sand it down and try again some other time.
Removed the fenders and brackets today so I can redo the underside and inside with white instead of the bright metallic silver I originally planned. Only took 1:40 to remove both. So nice not having everything rusted together like it used to be.
Also I want to say, it is REALLY nice to use the spray paint to get in the tight areas that a big spray gun can't reach. I might even use a brush on some spots inside the grill that nobody sees but I want the metal protected.

Painted the fenders. It started out badly. First, the nice cloudy day turned to bright sun. I had to paint on the side of my house under a tree to not be in direct sunlight. Then the paint wasn't coming out smooth and getting worse to the point it was like spattering textured drywall. I realized the air compressor wasn't turned on. Wow, how stupid! Came out good after that. I thinned it all down a little more with mineral spirits.

I put the fenders and grill on over the past few days. Paint is still soft of course since this is Rustoleum. Takes like a month+ to harden but it's nice to be able to grab a small paint brush and touch up the spots that get scratched off or spots that I missed.
I didn't want to put all the evap/emissions junk back on since it was so rusty and dirty.

I painted the whole Jeep today using a sprayer and the gallon rustoleum. I was unable to get it dialed in right. Finish doesn't look good. It actually came out better when I did it with spray paint cans. Somehow the new paint I just did has a tan/yellower tone. Not the same bright white. Not sure what happened.There was a yellowish looking liquid that collected in the can before I stirred it up. Sort of bummed but just glad to have it done.
I intended to tape and mask everything better but the wind picked up and made it difficult for the thin masking plastic. Oh and it started to rain a couple drops between coats. That was a lovely surprise.

Been working on putting everything back together the last couple days. I wanted to clean, sandblast, paint and make everything and every fastener nice before it goes back on but I've realized that is more work and time than I thought. So now I'm putting most everything back on as-is and once I get it all together and up/running, then I can decide and prioritize which little projects to work on and refresh/renew as I have time.

Thank you! I've been working on it a lot lately getting everything back together. Not done yet but I was able to drive it today for the first time in at least a year or two. Took a little trip up to the corner gas station.
Looks Great! Get er finished and cruise on up to the Two Trackers meeting in GR on Sept 3rd!
Quick sandblasting of the rollbar. I used the pressure pot blaster. Worked great. I didn't spend the time or effort to get it 100% clean in all the pits but it's a lot better than it was with nasty flaking and bubbling rust.
Painted the rollbar with low gloss black Rustoleum Farm Implement paint. I've tried spray paint, gallon paint through a hvlp spray gun, brush, and this time tried a roller. Roller is by far my favorite method. I should have done the whole Jeep with a roller, it would have come out awesome. Maybe next time. My first coat leveled perfectly smooth but I did another coat a few minutes later and it left a texture (that I kind of like). If you wait 24 hours for recoat I bet it would stay nice and smoooooth.
Painted the interior today. Went right over top of the old spray on bedliner and my new floor panels and everything else. Meets my expectations. Hopefully can get the rollbar back in tonight and carpet tomorrow after 24 hour dry time.

I have sprayed a lot of farm and implement paint through my HVLP with the thinner and hardener they produce. Have had very good results with it. It doesn't last as long as good automotive paint with exposure to UV though. My sliders were painted that way and they are starting to develop a little chalkiness to the appearance.
I repainted some of our John Deere's back in high school and it held up well, use John Deere green next time.

My 5 year old loved it - he hasn't ridden in the Jeep since he was two. He just knows I'm always working the Jeep but never remembers driving in it before.

I finished up a few more minors items (visors, windshield side trim pieces, door switches, parking brake boot). I was going to go with a full console that I had picked up from a local part out, even got all the crossbody harness for the subwoofer which is one year only for 2002, but I decided to keep the short console as it provides more interior room. Same thing with foglights - I had picked up the proper wiring harness, multifunction switch, and lights, but I decided to leave it be.
Today, I gave a quick paint job to the frame with Rustoleum Farm low-gloss black and a paintbrush. Just to get me by until a sandblast and repair the frame at some point down the road. I didn't want to leave the white overspray showing. Good feeling getting it done and not getting sucked into doing more and more and more.
