Grabar install measuring

Factory bolts are long enough. To mount the the handle through the hole, I was close to LJ Jim's measurements.

For mine this worked out perfectly: I made a vertical pencil line 7 1/4" (measure on the straight/flat side that is closest to the windshield) from the end of the tab that tucks into the center trim piece. Then I measured 2 inches down the line (again measured from the straight side that sits closest to the windshield towards the curved side), and made a center mark there.

Drill a 1 1/2 inch hole saw at that point. After drilling install this grommet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XKH4Z89/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Installed these today. Solid steel and tough. Got them from Quadratec. $49.99 and free shipping. No bolts, though. I ordered some cheap bars off Amazon but they were aluminum. Returned them but forgot to return the bolts that came with them. 😜. https://www.quadratec.com/p/crown-automotive/rough-trail-front-grab-handles-wrangler-tj-rt27061. Nice touch with the rubber seals.
Mine are still raw plastic but I can’t see the hole while driving so I just forgot about them lol

I started to just leave the hole, but the grommet is a nice finishing touch. Either way is good really, especially if you have a good cut on the hole. I started to say a good, clean hole, but that would stir up some comments, huh?? LOL

Ok tonight I did the driver’s side. Perfect cut on first attempt.

See what I mean about cutting into the curve?

not bad, but here it is with the grommet:

Going back over to the passenger side, even though I messed up the hole, it looks just fine with the grommet:

Now here’s something cool that you can’t do with the soft grab handles - I was able to attach the RAM mount cell phone holder I had left over from an old motorcycle I had sold a few years ago.
